Manufacturing Engineer

Background & Purpose of the Job

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving the continuous improvement culture at Unilever by using lean manufacturing and process improvement tools. Using loss data in the areas of Safety, Quality, and Cost Deployment, the Manufacturing Engineer will launch projects to eliminate waste and losses. The right candidate will work with the business unit leaders and line technicians to validate and implement new processes and technologies that improve our operational efficiency.  Working directly with the operators on a daily basis, the Manufacturing Engineer also acts as the technical trainer for line teams and provides coaching in phenomena identification, root cause analysis and the establishment of countermeasures.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The Manufacturing Engineer works directly with the Business Leaders to prioritize continuous improvement projects. In this role, you will apply and conduct specific training in process improvement tools such as 5W2H, 5-Why, Kaizen methodology, Statistical Process Controls, and other similar topics. You will work to identify solutions that are error-proof, easily repeatable, and expandable throughout the organization. Being involved in our WCM culture, you will be an active member of the Focused Improvement (FI) Pillar.

You’re a strategy guru: You will use data analytics and loss trees to define the activities we must take to drive forward our continuous improvement culture. Using this data, you will prioritize key projects that will deliver cost savings while eliminating quality defects.

You’re a teacher: You will assist in training our autonomous teams in continuous improvement tools. Having a deep understanding of the kaizen methodology, you will share this knowledge openly with others as we expand our improvement culture to all levels of the organization. You understand various learning styles and can adjust your presentation accordingly.

You’re a culture & change champion: You will challenge the status quo and constantly be identifying better, quicker, and smarter ways to complete a process. You strive for zero defects and do not accept mediocrity.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a similarly related field, with a minimum of two years in a project execution role.

  • Experience in World Class Manufacturing (WCM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), or other Lean Manufacturing framework is highly preferred.

  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills are required; formal training/certification in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, MiniTab, PowerBI, and Word are a plus.
