GCAD is the Group Chief Accountant’s Department, responsible for accounting and controls activities for the group and acts as a centre of accounting expertise and excellence.  We are looking to build a dedicated controls expertise team within GCAD to support the group’s internal financial controls assessment, including compliance with Sarbanes Oxley regulations.

Main Job Purpose:

The purpose of the role is to support the financial controls assurance process and to strengthen the operation of financial controls across the business.  There will be a team of four Analysts, who will each take ownership for a global process/processes such as Order To Cash, Purchase to Pay etc.  The Analyst will work closely with the Controls Service Centre (CSC), Process Excellence teams and country contacts to ensure a smooth audit process and timely resolution of control deficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing testing plans and methodologies for controls
  • Reviewing country self-assessments and determining if exemptions should be granted
  • Reviewing and quantifying control deficiencies
  • Communicating the outcomes of the testing process to countries and other stakeholders
  • Driving remediation actions with countries for deficiencies

Each analyst will take the lead to run the core governance meetings for one of the global processes (Control Process Improvement Meeting).  This includes co-ordinating inputs, reviewing proposed changes to the control framework and the communication of changes to a wide range of stakeholders. They will develop and deliver training and education to both control operators and to testers to ensure the core principles of financial control are well understood.  They will also provide clarification where needed on what is expected for countries to meet audit requirements, for example the level of documentation to support a control operation.   

Analysts will also be a key part of any change project within their dedicated process area, responsible for working with Process Excellence and other project teams to evaluate the impact of process change on the control environment.

Experience

  • Part-Qualified or Qualified Chartered Accountant or other relevant professional qualification
  • Audit experience or previous controls experience preferred   
  • Financial accounting experience and knowledge of SCOA
  • Knowledge of Unilever’s core business transactional processes
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, bringing the ability to explain technical concepts to a wider business audience
  • Change management/experience of working as part of a multi-stakeholder project team an advantage
