Purpose of the job:

The primary focus of this role is to drive and execute Customs strategy for Europe and deliver excellence in Customs operations. The role will also be responsible for developing capabilities and initiatives to support Customs performance over a multi-year horizon, and be responsible for Customs processes, projects, and enablers.

Head of Customs EU will be responsible for managing all Customs risks of our EU business and ensure compliancy & control. At this we strive for less overall Customs costs, less additional Customs levies, no penalties, and more efficiency with technology in place.

What you can expect from the role?

  • Define and implement end-to-end Customs strategy including risks review

  • Lead and drive European Customs initiatives, accountable for implementing of changes and projects

  • Contributing to the enhancement of our managed services solution in the area of process, training, and technology

  • Monitor all Customs regulations by country and review all Customs relevant activities to reduce financial exposure by maximizing legitimate tax and duty efficiencies

  • Stay aligned and in contact with the wider Customs teams within Unilever to ensure best practice and synergies are captured across sectors

  • Identify Customs training needs throughout the business; lead creation of Customs training material and monitor delivering training to Customs team

  • Ensure legal and ethical compliance to Customs regulations

  • Create, develop, and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines to meet Customs requirements

  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost reduction/avoidance through special Customs procedure, e.g. free trade zones, bonded warehouse

  • Support purchasing in the Customs suppliers (broker) selection based on the criteria defined in the Customs strategy

  • Assure European Customs reporting

  • Customs optimalization - accountable for implementing of benchmark projects to improve efficiency of Customs solutions. Facilitate solution design, identify opportunities for the further optimizations and lead them to into operational reality with and via technology implementation

  • Team Leadership & Mentoring – to develop, coach, mentor and leverage skills and expertise of both internal and external resources in order to create a responsive and flexible Customs network across Europe

  • Team Management – to define organizational structure, set objectives, and manage workloads and results to achieve goals while adopting best practices and achieving continuous process improvement

  • Continuous improvements - Bring deep process expertise/innovations to drive higher effectiveness and efficiencies across E2E Customs processes

  • Expert knowledge of relevant Customs regulations and ability to analyze business situations and to advise on the impact of Customs regulations would be an added value

  • Solid understanding of the logistics processes

  • Experienced with implementation of digital solutions for Customs processes

  • Strong analytical skills including analysis of complex data
