What will You be Doing

This role involves assisting the Senior Tax Manager of MYSG & Myanmar in managing the tax affairs relating to Unilever business in Malaysia and Singapore. It encompasses supervising the statutory tax compliance and internal tax reporting works to ensure the company meet all statutory and internal tax obligations; providing tax advice on business operation and projects;  managing tax risks; supporting the implementation of regional and global (tax planning) initiatives in line with Global policy, instructions and guidelines, in order to realize a Competitive Effective Tax Rate (ETR) and optimizing Unilever’s indirect tax position. The role will work closely with multiple internal and external stakeholders at local, regional, and global level.

  • Reporting to: Senior Tax Manager of MYSG & Myanmar

Your Role/Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise the Shared Service Center team and tax consultants to meet all statutory tax compliance obligations including tax payments (in respect of  income tax, indirect taxes, withholding taxes, transfer pricing documentation), maintaining full compliance with Malaysian and Singaporean tax laws.

  • Work with shared service center colleagues to meet all internal tax reporting obligations (including contingent tax provision report, Annual Tax risk review, Total Tax Contribution reporting, etc.) ensuring full compliance with internal corporate tax policies.

  • Support the implementation of local, regional and global initiatives (tax planning, M&A, system optimization) in line with Global policy, instructions and guidelines.

  • A Business partner to the business, providing timely and quality advise on tax implications and compliance matters. Work with shared service centre colleagues and tax consultants in preparing responses, documents/information requested in any internal of external tax audits in a timely manner Support and actively identify/develop safeguard mechanism to minimize tax exposure and optimize tax savings opportunities.

  • Review of contracts to advise on tax implications, ensuring end to end processes are considered.

  • Analyses the impact of (changes in) domestic and international taxation rules on the business.

  • Partner with tax consulting firms, and regional tax department to understand/benchmark the developments of Malaysia and Singapore tax laws, then translate the opportunities into actionable tax value creation projects.

  • Finance (controlling and reporting teams) of MYSG

  • Finance Business Partners

  • Head of Tax SEAA/Senior Tax Manager of MYSG & Myanmar

  • Global Tax Function Teams (Tax Reporting, TP, Tax Technology, Indirect Taxes)

  • Customer Development and various Business Operations teams (source to pay, order to cash)

External:

  • Tax Authorities

  • Tax Consultants

Travel:

No travel is required.

What’s in You

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance and Accounting preferably with tax discipline.

  • Degree qualified, with CPA/CA or Masters of Tax. Member of a Tax Professional Body in Malaysia would be an advantage.

  • Minimum 5 years of tax experience including previous experience in an in-house tax function within a multinational organization with knowledge of systems and reporting and experience with tax consulting firms.

  • Good knowledge of domestic Tax systems (CIT, WHT and indirect tax), International Compliance and Tax Accounting. Knowledge of transfer pricing would be an advantage.

  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Knowledge of SAP system is a plus.

  • Good at project management, risk management and building rapport/meaningful relationship with the stakeholders.

  • You have strong organizational skills to manage priorities simultaneously to deliver outcomes in accordance with agreed timelines

  • You will be a strong communicator with the ability to influence others and hold them accountable.

  • Proactively highlight opportunities to the business and report to the board and senior leadership teams.

  • You possess a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
