We are looking for a Production Leader who will be in charge of leading and overseeing the efforts of the production team, ensuring the production performance is carried out in adherence to business goals. This position will be responsible for the following reports: operators, mixers, production stores and casual employees across multiple shift patterns. The Production Leaders must also monitor the progress of operations and address issues and concerns, resolving them promptly and efficiently. Moreover, a production team leader must encourage and lead staff to reach goals while implementing continuous improvement projects.

Role Responsibilities:
Operations:
Act as the management point of call for assigned Production and Mixing Areas
Ensure the efficient manufacture of production volumes to achieve customer service and inventory targets
To achieve predetermined Key Performance Indicators relating to costs, efficiency, quality, safety, employee morale, environment and reliability
Use and train others in tools such as SOP’s and OPL’s
Escalate issues that affect production to the appropriate persons in a timely manner
Deliver the daily plan and target line efficiencies (OEE)
Verify the accuracy of the loss data (OFS and tick sheets).
Develop understanding of loss management system and use data in Team Review Forums
Liaise with relevant departments regarding packaging and raw material shortage issues. Feedback outcomes to Plant Manager.
Ensure all rework is completed in a timely manner
Work with other PL’S and FFS Planner to ensure correct cover for Mixing requirements
Manage PSL locations to ensure inventory accuracy
Provide production support to the technical leader and engineering team with the implementation of SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies)
With appropriate support from Engineering and QA, ensure that all Capital and Innovation Projects relevant to the North Rocks site are implemented effectively
Responsible for implementation and upkeep of area housekeeping and 5S
Understand the principle of WCM and use WCM tools where appropriate
Ensure proper use of Effective Maintenance (e.g. CLI’s)
People:
To provide effective leadership to the team of manufacturing personnel, including training, development, communication, and involvement
Ensure all workers on shift have completed the site induction, including temporary labour
Ensure employees complete relevant training and assessment
Participate in recruitment and on boarding activities for new team members
Responsible for the cost effective utilisation of labour
Responsible for managing short term absences in line with business requirements
Responsible for managing and ordering temporary cover
Regular performance conversations with employees including annual performance reviews
Conduct incident investigations and provide recommendations to the Plant Manager
Hold employee counselling/verbal warning disciplinary sessions
Liaise with payroll regarding shift patterns and overtime payments
Approve hours worked for employees using payroll system Kronos
Ensure that appropriate investment is made into Skills Training and Employee Development to maintain team members at the required level for the current and future operation
Strategy:
Understand and work within the scope of the North Rocks EBA
Understand North Rocks Site Master Plan and Strategy
Communicate relevant elements of Strategy and ensure team’s understanding
Drive activities that align with, and support, the Unilever Manufacturing System methodology
Understand and implement Run 2 Standard Strategy
Operate as a key member of the Site Management Team and represent operations on committees, continuous improvement teams, and cross functional groups
Ensure effective and appropriate consultative practices are adopted, including consultation with union delegates and officials when required
Quality:
Ensure correct use of QA line sheets in order to ensure quality product
Agree with Plant Manager rework required and execute accordingly
Use the NCR system to manage rework/reject across production and mixing plants
Safety:
To ensure that OH&S guidelines and company policies are understood and adhered to
Responsible for ensuring the completion of spills and near miss notification of injuries and subsequent investigations
Ensure all waste generation is minimised and disposed of correctly
Ensure that the site safety checklists are completed
Develop an appropriate appreciation of the importance of Safety Systems
Respond to spillage incidents appropriately
Ensure that appropriate PPE is available
Ensure correct use of the D-Card process
Conduct safety engagements and deep compliance checks
Support for all audits as per business requirements
Backup Emergency Controller / Incident Controller in line with the Site Emergency Plan

Tertiary qualification preferred
Experience in a manufacturing leadership role preferred
Experience with FMCG products preferred
People management experience preferred
Ability to coach and influence operations
Strong influencing and negotiation skills
Exceptional planning and communications skills
Technical understanding of manufacturing process improvement and leadership of continuous improvement initiatives
Demonstrates ability to apply change management principles and drive a cultural change agenda
