We are looking for a Regulatory Specialist - Foods & Refreshment who will be responsible for providing input into the innovation program on specific local regulatory requirements and implement the local advocacy program to shape the future regulatory space to support future innovation. Internal and external stakeholder management is required, including external advocacy work, risk assessment and mitigation.

This role sits within the Research and Development function, as part of the global Regulatory Affairs (RA) Capability. Key interfaces include local RA Compliance Manager, R&D Technical Management (TM) team, Technical Project Leaders (TPLs), regional and global regulatory affairs community, Local Marketing, Quality Assurance, External Affairs, Legal and Supply Chain.

Job Summary


  • Autonomously responsible for regulatory input for Foods, Refreshment and Food Solutions innovation and advocacy

  • Provide input to innovation projects on ANZ specific regulations, interpreting regulations and developing plans to avoid, remove or negotiate changes to minimize impact on business programs

  • Advise technical teams on the data and documentation required to support regulatory applications to enable marketing of Unilever products

  • Support the local RA Compliance expert in the development and implementation of processes to ensure Unilever product information and claims are kept compliant, relevant and up to date

  • Track food regulatory changes in Australia and New Zealand and provide training and updates to category R&D technical teams for them to ensure product compliance as well as relevant updates to wider business partners (e.g. FSANZ, BICON)

  • Look strategically for regulatory opportunities and/or risks in Unilever Foods & Refreshment product categories and communicate to the Regulatory team and Category team to optimize opportunities and manage risks

  • Support & drive external advocacy activities as part of the Regulatory Affairs / External Affairs advocacy plan

  • Proactively build relationships with external parties like regulators, NGOs, Key Opinion Formers (KOFs), industry associations

  • Participate in and represent Unilever in relevant industry working groups, conferences and seminars, putting forward agreed Unilever positions and influencing towards these

  • Participate in relevant internal local, regional and global networks to ensure efficient communication and management of activities, opportunities, issues and risk management, leveraging expertise, best practice and learning across countries via relevant networks

  • Provide role appropriate regulatory training to internal stakeholders including the translation of difficult regulatory topics into simple language for non-regulatory people

  • Manage internal and external stakeholders

  • Understanding the regional framework in Unilever, SEAC, QA, specific standards, policies, networks

  • Actively support the implementation of USLP strategy and communicate relevant regulatory developments to ensure locally compliant and credible communication

What are we looking for

  • Degree in relevant subject (Science, Nutrition, Food Technology, Law)

  • Experience: 5 or more years working experience in FMCG company or trade association

  • Strong understanding of Australian and New Zealand Food Regulations

  • Problem solving approach
