Background & Purpose of the Job

Customer Development (CD) is what we call our Sales organization at Unilever. CD works closely with customers to create and implement joint business plans that deliver value for the customer and company.  CD leaders pioneer new products, build categories, and deploy best-in-class retail and shopper capabilities. 

The Nutrition & Ice Cream Strategy Manager for Walmartdelivers strategic thought leadership, insights, and solutions to accelerate omni growth for Unilever across total Nutrition (Meal solutions, Soups, Bouillon, Dry Sauce Mix and Condiments) and Ice Cream businessThe strategy manager will be anexpert in the shopper and translate that understanding to opportunities to grow the Joint Business Plan and drive customer trust.  The strategy manager will work with CBM’s and cross functional members to identify cohort opportunities, geography opportunities, cross category opportunities, partnerships, innovation opportunities and white space opportunities across the business.  The strategy manager will drive the Joint Business process with Walmart and long-term planning process.  The strategy manager is not a category advisor role and does not manage the modular relay process.  

What You’ll Do 

  • Build a best-in-class relationship with the Walmart cross-functional team, including proactive omni department recommendations that are delivering against their shoppers needs, Walmart’s KPIs, and are operationally executable

  • Partner with CBM’s to lead the development of an omni shopper strategy across Nutrition/IC by identifying opportunities and translating these opportunities into actionable recommendations 

  • Own insights and analytics that translate to assortment, shelving, and shopper experience recommendations at a Nutrition/IC department 

  • Deliver recommendations across the physical and digital store with excellence

  • Provide foresight for break-through test and learn opportunities for Walmart to learn fast and drive speed to market

  • Ensure timely, clear, and robust delivery of business group performance reporting, market trends, customer insights, and actionable analytics

  • Collaborate extensively with internal departments (e.g. Global Customer Insights, People Data Center, etc.) to ensure existing global and US work is translated for use at Walmart

  • Deep understanding of rest of market and global execution to bring forward recommendations to accelerate growth

  • Strong background in data and analytics

  • Customer relationship management experience: CPG & Walmart customer management experience required

Strategy & Analytics Capabilities

  • Strategy & Analytics muscle: 10+ years’ experience in Category Management, Customer Management, Insights or Sales Strategy 

  • CPG experience is must and Walmart/Mass experience is plus 

  • Knowledge of syndicated store & shopper data  

  • Knowledge of retailer direct store & shopper data (Retail Link and Luminate or equivalent) 

  • Delivery of department strategy excellence – with translation across b&m and online 

  • Translator experience – can speak fluently and translate across traditional category management, analytics, shopper, and shopping insights disciplines into a comprehensive learning plan 

  • Ability to distill complex data and analysis into simple storytelling 

Operational Understanding

  • Ability to translate shopper-centered strategy into recommendations across assortment, location/space, experience, and promotion 

  • Experiencing translating research into ‘so what/now what’ that is operationally executable 

  • Experience managing as a process lead across multiple functions, that can build JTBD, process planning, and can act as a translator between teams
