Unilever is looking for a R&D Manager – Foods Retail Nordic

We are looking for a R&D manager to join our Foods & Refreshment retail business in the Nordics! This position is a 1 year temporary full time position and you will be based in any of the Nordic Unilever offices in Solna, Copenhagen or Helsinki starting in January 2022.

Business Context and Main Purpose of Job


The R&D team leads the adoption of agile innovation approaches to fully land regional and local projects in line with consumer and business needs. In this role you will be a member of the Nordic Foods Retail business team representing R&D, ensuring delivery of agreed technical innovation plan and leading the Foods Local Deploy team for Nordic. You will have two food specialists reporting to you, based in Solna.

You will bring entrepreneurship and passion to grow the Foods business and your enthusiasm to know consumers and customers will help to shape and deliver brilliant, sustainable, product experiences.

Main accountabilities & key responsibilities

R&D leadership for Nordic Foods Local Deploy team

As lead for the Local Deploy team you will be the first point of contact for any country activity that requires R&D input, including: innovation, regulatory compliance, issue management, challenges etc. You will be responsible for ensuring delivery of the R&D elements of agreed technical innovation, saving and simplification plans in close partnership with the regional R&D team and manage external work according to the agile outsourcing framework. By being the voice of technology, you and the team will be the champions for storytelling and technical product activation with customer and consumers. You help identify new trends and technology opportunities to ensure a future relevant foods business. Your leadership will empower and develop the Nordic Foods Retail Local Deploy team to drive entrepreneurship and agility and ensure R&D are at the heart of our business team and has a strong network within R&D Foods EU.

Technical leadership and delivery

  • Ensuring full R&D support for product innovation and advertising activities, including technical substantiation, driving claims support, demo creation and implementation in activation.

  • Ensuring compliance with mandatory Unilever policies and relevant EU and local legislation

  • On time delivery of all relevant technical specifications and artwork

  • Technical leadership to support issues/crisis/risk management in close collaboration with local/regional quality team and issue management team

  • Drive local competitor landscape and portfolio analysis

  • Technical Project Leadership where appropriate for locally managed innovation projects.

  • Providing technical training to relevant audiences (e.g. Customer Development, Sales organisation)

Requirements

Key Skills and relevant Experience

  • Degree level qualification (or equivalent) and / or relevant experience in a technical discipline preferably in food science and technology

  • Deep knowledge of food products, processing and creative product development

  • Knowledge of Food/Ingredient legislation in EU

  • Knowledge of quality and food safety standards and procedures

  • Time management and priority setting skills

  • Professional networking and stakeholder management, external focus

  • Excellent communication skills, Fluent in English and at least one of the Nordic languages, both orally and in writing.

  • Experience of project management, including with third parties

  • Experience of successful leadership of innovation and deployment in market

You express yourself clearly and can simplify technical information from different sources and translate complex science into customer/consumer language. You work proactively towards issues and opportunities, collaborates seamlessly with different stakeholders and contribute to a good team spirit. Because of the fast-paced environment, you also need good time-management skills to handle multiple projects, in a dynamic environment with changing priorities.
