Who You Are & What You’ll Do

The individual will be responsible for the design and delivery of primary and secondary packaging for innovation, renovation, sustainability, and cost savings initiatives. You will manage multiple development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines. You will author packaging specifications for primary and secondary packaging, request and approve BOM’s, and input into the artwork development process for the Skin Care Category.  

You will use simulation tools and perform physical functional testing to validate the packaging you develop. You will deliver effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with Brand, Planning, Formulation, Procurement, Quality, and many external suppliers.  The position will also interface with Supply Chain for manufacturing scale-up including line trials, production start-ups, cost savings, and improving line efficiency. 

You will help co-lead the packaging test lab by developing& actioning test plans to evaluate components with engineers. You will test components across multiple skin care products / brands to confirm package integrity is not jeopardized while in distribution, in use, or at different environmental conditions by using differentlab equipment.  You will report package test results to the engineer, sharing modes of failure, and capturing the results in LIMS to allow learnings to be applied globally

Sustainability is also large focus area for you. You will lead a pivotal role in defining and reporting the environmental impact of new innovations & pkg changes exhibit by using a sustainability assessment tool. You will workclosely with packaging engineers and brand teams globallytointernally track the contribution of different sustainability initiatives,raising awareness to packaging changes, and watchouts in achieving skin care category targets. You will also collaborate with the global network of skin care packaging team membersto incorporate specification updates / revisions toensure the external environmental reporting is accurate.

The ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical teams is essential.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • B.S. Degree in Packaging Science, or Engineering equivalent required with 1+ years practical experience, including Co-ops or internships, in the packaging field. 

  • Basic technical competence and packaging component knowledge and experience, in rigid, bottles, closures and flexible packaging 

  • Basic Supply Chain knowledge related to packaging filling lines and Packaging QA. 

  • Must demonstrate understanding of package development process and engineering principles.  

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office – Excel, Power Point, 

  • Must demonstrate the ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components, with appropriate guidance, that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives.  

  • Must be able to demonstrate a general understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling. 

  • Must have a basic understanding of consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions & execution. An entrepreneurial mindset is beneficial.  

  • Must be able to communicate issues effectively to technical and non-technical personnel. (Brand, Finance, Creative, Manufacturing) 

  • SAP PLM and Teamcenter/Active Workspace experience a plus 

  • Power BI / data analytics experience beneficial
