This posting is for current and future openings in our Packaging Department at our Beauty & Wellbeing and Personal Care R&D Center in Trumbull CT. We are in a hybrid work environment with about 3 days a week in the lab.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do:

Our Packaging Engineers are responsible for the design and delivery of primary and secondary packaging for innovation, renovation, sustainability and cost savings initiatives. You will manage multiple development projects and prioritize tasks based on timelines. You will deliver effectively in a cross-functional team environment by working with Brand, Planning, Formulation, Procurement, Quality, and many external suppliers.  The position will also interface with Supply Chain for manufacturing scale-up including line trials, production start-ups, cost savings, and improving line efficiency.

  • Coordinate and lead packaging development projects and manage assigned primary and secondary packaging projects.

  • Work with Brand Development and the cross-functional project team to ensure packaging is fit for purpose to meet the packaging brief and delivered on time, in full

  • Partners with Supply chain to assist in technical assessments of contract manufacturing sites

  • Identify and work collaboratively with network of internal & external experts, component supplier/convertors, design agencies, testing labs, & contract manufacturers to develop activities related to Packaging Design & development

  • Deliver packaging which not only meets the required quality and technical standards, but also delights the consumer and builds brand love, through using Unilever’s Packaging Excellence best practices

  • Technical analysis of new packaging designs and provision of feedback to project teams with respect to design viability; also identify possible solutions to resolve technical problems, minimizing changes to the design intent

  • Manage good technical data records – project data, specifications, test results

  • Identify and implement potential cost saving activities across the category packaging portfolio

  • Prepare and develop supplier technical briefs where required, working closely with suppliers to develop and test packaging in accordance with the Unilever’s Packaging Excellence best practices

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • B.S. Degree (preferably in Packaging Science or engineering equivalent) with 1-6 years of  experience in the packaging field, preferably in the beauty or personal care products industry

  • Broad packaging component knowledge and experience in rigid plastic assemblies, bottles, closures, aerosol and flexible packaging a huge plus

  • Understanding of package development process and engineering principles; and global packaging experience is helpful.

  • Ability to design and develop primary and secondary packaging components that meet consumer, brand, customer, and manufacturing objectives

  • Project management skills to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling

  • Understand consumer, business, and category needs and the relationship to packaging decisions & execution. An entrepreneurial mindset is beneficial

This posting is open for talents at the Associate Packaging Engineer ($53,200 to $79,700), Packaging Engineer ($67,000 to $100,500) and Senior Packaging Engineer ($83,200 to $124,700) levels. Salary and level will depend on experience.

Pay: Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
