Job Description: Senior Executive Chemical Process Engineer/ Assistant Chemical Process Manager

Location: Mumbai HURC

Position Summary

The Assistant Chemical Process Manager / Senior Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for leading and optimizing chemical manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and compliance. The role supports plant operations by developing process improvements, troubleshooting issues, coordinating cross-functional teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process Design & Optimization

  • Develop, evaluate, and optimize chemical processes to improve yield, throughput, and cost efficiency.

  • Prepare and update process flow diagrams (PFDs), material and energy balances.

  • Conduct scale-up studies, pilot trials, and technology transfers for new and existing products.

2. Operations Support

  • Provide daily technical support to production teams to resolve process deviations and equipment issues.

  • Monitor critical process parameters and implement corrective/preventive actions.

  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA), troubleshooting, and failure investigations.

3. Safety, Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure adherence to HAZOP and other safety management systems.

  • Drive compliance with GMP, ISO, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support audits, documentation, and continuous improvement of EHS practices.

  • Create and update SOPs, batch manufacturing records, and process documentation.

4. Project Management

  • Support planning and execution of plant modification projects, debottlenecking initiatives, and CAPEX projects.

  • Collaborate with maintenance, instrumentation, R&D, and QA for smooth project delivery.

  • Evaluate new technologies, equipment, and process improvements.

5. Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyse production data, efficiency metrics, and quality trends to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Prepare technical reports, KPIs, and presentations for management review.

  • Utilize statistical tools to enhance process control.

6. Cross‑Functional Collaboration & Leadership

  • Work closely with Production, QA, R&D, Procurement, and Maintenance teams.

  • Train operators and junior engineers on process standards, safety, and best practices.

  • Act as the technical back-up for the Process Manager in plant operations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemical engineering

  • Typically, 5–10 years of experience in chemical/ pharma / API / refinery / petrochemical / specialty chemical manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of unit operations, reaction engineering, heat & mass transfer, and process optimisation

  • Experience with safety systems such as HAZOP and incident investigation.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and process improvement.

  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
