This transformation will consist of expert fragrance teams creating unmissably superior fragrances that are affordable by design.

Job Purpose

To create fragrance delivery systems working with external partners (perfume houses and other independent companies) to enhance fragrance performance at consumer magic moments. This will involve identification of benefit spaces, create the right technology and prove its benefits.

The successful candidate will report to the Delivery Systems Technology Lead for UFH.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the following areas:  

• UFH exclusive technology creation for all core-in-shell, starch and other delivery systems (fragrance precursors) through different external partners. This will involve partnering with external companies and establishing benefits at the right magic moment for consumers across HC, PC and BW categories.

• Work with S&T experts and perfume houses to improve deposition of core-in-shell delivery systems. Review patent literature to identify technology space for UFH IP.

• For fragrance pre-cursors, work with external houses to assess and rank existing technologies and map their role in UFH portfolio. Review existing IP landscape to identify opportunities for UFH IP.

• Assess stability profile of delivery systems in key formats (across categories). Identify approaches with partners to improve stability and widen olfactive window.

• Assess safety and regulatory status of all delivery systems together with SERS. Identify solutions to avoid regulatory challenges whilst ensuring full compliance on safety.

All About You

We are looking for an individual with the right attitude, mindset, and competencies to support the Unilever Fragrance House Science and Technology Programme with cutting edge measurement science capabilities. The individual should have strong foundation in formulation knowledge across Home Care, Skin Cleansing and Hair Care formats. Prior knowledge of encapsulated fragrances and their use in Home Care will be beneficial. Any experience working with an external Fragrance House would be beneficial.  The individual will be given a lot of operational freedom and should have the ability to think on their feet.

The individual should have a proven track record of:

• Educational Background: Graduation in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and > 5 years’ experience in formulation design.

• Hands on analytical testing on perfumes and perfume raw materials – Preferred if basic knowledge of GC-MS and analysis of GC data.

• Hands on knowledge of fragrance encapsulates - Fully proficient in shell design, leakage and breakage mechanisms for core-in-shell encaps and starch encaps.

• Excellent collaboration skill - partnering with in-house perfumers, fragrance evaluators, multifunctional colleagues, and external Fragrance Houses to deliver technical analysis which is precise and relevant.

• Fire-in-the-belly – Results oriented and highly driven to achieve success.

• Ability to join-the-dots – Connect analytical data to technical problems and relevant business outcomes.
