Function: Supply Chain

Reports to: Site & Project Engineering Manager

Location: The factory is located in Dukem, Ethiopia, outside Addis Ababa.

Terms & Conditions: Full time


Unilever is looking for a maintenance manager who will be responsible to lead the site maintenance function to maximize asset reliability, equipment availability and operational performance through effective planned, preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance. The Maintenance Manager is accountable for reducing equipment-related losses and unplanned downtime, improving OEE, strengthening maintenance systems, optimizing spare-parts inventory and maintenance expenditure, and building a safe, capable and future-fit technical organization then this role is just for you.

Maintenance strategy and governance 

  • Lead the site maintenance strategy and translate business priorities into annual maintenance plans, budgets, resource requirements and improvement roadmaps. 
  • Establish clear maintenance standards, governance routines and accountability across all production areas. 
  • Lead maintenance performance reviews and ensure significant reliability, cost and compliance risks are escalated and closed. 

Asset reliability and operational performance 

  • Maximize equipment availability and Overall Equipment Effectiveness by maintaining assets in safe and optimal operating condition. 
  • Reduce unplanned downtime, repeat failures and repair time through preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance. 
  • Lead asset-criticality assessment, bad-actor elimination and reliability improvement for critical and bottleneck equipment. 
  • Provide structured leadership during major breakdowns and ensure timely, safe recovery. 

Planned Maintenance pillar deployment 

  • Lead the implementation, assessment and sustained execution of the Planned Maintenance pillar across priority lines and all factory areas. 
  • Ensure preventive-maintenance standards, inspection routines and maintenance task lists are technically sound, risk-based and consistently executed. 
  • Integrate Planned Maintenance with autonomous maintenance, focused improvement, safety, quality and early equipment management. 

Planning, scheduling and work management 

  • Establish disciplined maintenance planning and scheduling, including preventive work, corrective work, statutory activities, shutdowns and major overhauls. 
  • Ensure work orders include defined scope, labor, spare parts, tools, permits and technical documentation before execution. 
  • Maintain a risk-prioritized backlog, improve schedule compliance and ensure completed work orders capture useful equipment history. 

Breakdown analysis and continuous improvement 

  • Ensure significant and recurring failures are investigated using structured root-cause analysis. 
  • Convert findings into corrective and preventive actions with clear owners and deadlines and verify effectiveness after completion. 
  • Promote permanent engineering solutions and share technical learning across production areas. 

Spare-parts and engineering stores management 

  • Lead spare-parts optimization in collaboration with Engineering Stores, Procurement, Finance and maintenance planning. 
  • Classify critical, active, slow-moving, non-moving and obsolete spares and periodically review replenishment parameters based on criticality, consumption and lead time. 
  • Protect critical-spares availability while reducing excess and obsolete inventory. 
  • Identify opportunities for localization, refurbishment and in-house fabrication, while maintaining technical and quality requirements. 

Cost, contractor and supplier management 

  • Develop and control the annual maintenance budget without compromising safety, compliance, quality .

Experiences & Qualifications

National B.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering 

Minimum of 5 years experience in FMCG in a maintenance management role

Experience of working as part of an extended team within the manufacturing sector.
