1. Job/Role Description:

The Assistant Manager - Technology Controls is responsible for supporting the design, implementation, monitoring of technology controls across Unilever's digital landscape. The role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with SOX requirements, strengthening the control environment, and partnering with stakeholders to address control deficiencies in a sustainable and risk-based manner. The individual will act as a trusted advisor, influencing stakeholders across functions and defending Unilever's control position with internal and external auditors.

2. Job Summary

SOX & Controls Compliance

  • Execute and support SOX compliance activities across Technology domains.

  • Assess the design and operating effectiveness of IT General Controls (ITGCs) and Interface controls.

  • Perform control testing, evidence review, and deficiency assessments in line with internal and external audit requirements.

  • Ensure controls remain aligned with evolving regulatory and business requirements.

Deficiency Management & Remediation

  • Lead remediation efforts for identified control deficiencies and audit findings.

  • Partner with control owners to perform root cause analysis and develop practical remediation plans.

  • Track remediation progress, challenge delays, and ensure timely closure of actions.

Stakeholder Management & Influencing

  • Build strong relationships with technology, cyber, digital, and business stakeholders.

  • Influence decision-making without direct authority to drive effective control outcomes.

  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments and manage conflicting priorities.

  • Provide clear and compelling communication to senior management, auditors, and control owners.

Audit & Assurance Support

  • Coordinate with Internal Audit, External Audit and Product teams and control owners.

  • Represent and defend Unilever's control position during audit discussions and deficiency evaluations.

  • Prepare management responses and provide evidence-based rationale for control effectiveness.

  • Support successful audit outcomes while maintaining a balanced risk perspective.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to enhance control design, automation, and monitoring capabilities.

  • Contribute to strengthening the overall controls culture and risk awareness across the organisation.

  • Support implementation of technology governance, risk, and compliance initiatives.

  • Support the business with adhoc assessments/ compliance activity/ advisory against regulatory requirements that maybe global/ regional in nature

  • Roadmap and drive improvement activities from joint workstreams with teams like Standards, Privacy, CMDB etc.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Infra, Privacy, Standards, inventory) to improve security integration.

3. Experience & Expertise:

  • 6 to 8 years of experience of IT and Cyber background with strong understanding of security control frameworks (e.g. NIST, ISO27000, CIS) and regulatory standards (such GDPR, SOX, PCI, etc).

  • Strong experience of managing operational risks and controls, including in end-to-end risk identification, assessment and mitigation.  

  • Strong experience driving IT & Cyber Automation, enabling real-time telemetry ingestion and correlation using APIs, data pipelines, or event hubs.

  • Experience with Vendor Management and Quality Assurance, for reviewing performance of a large team of cyber security consultants against clearly defined targets

4. Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to analyse data and visualize compliance metrics effectively.

  • Specific certifications such as Security+, CISA, CISM, CISSP associate/professionals or equivalent

  • Strong knowledge of the applications or the technical landscape within the domain.

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

  • Agentic AI & Gen AI literacy
