MAIN JOB PURPOSE

The Focused Improvement (FI) Engineer has the overall responsibility for delivering improvement and savings projects identified by the Cost Deployment Pillar and/or the UMS Pillar the role is assigned to. The job holder will apply extensively the full range of Focused and Quality Improvement methods and tools to counter losses identified in the areas of Safety, Quality, Cost Deployment, Customer Service and Logistics.

The FI Engineer is responsible for the implementation of all process improvements and the establishment of Basic Condition Standards in the line. The core deliverable of the role is to eliminate losses and waste and increase the stability of the line to support the transition of traditional line teams to semi-autonomous teams. Working directly with the line organization daily, the FI Engineer acts as technical trainer for the line teams and provides coaching to operators.

The role holds the key technical authority in the line responsible for: 

  • Measurement of all Line Key Performance Indicators: establish methodologies in capturing, recording, analyzing, reporting daily line performance data. 

  • Lead the discussion on performance gaps and trends with the Line Team. 

  • Identification of critical equipment settings and creation of standards. 

  • Creation of know-how and technical knowledge transfer to operators. 

  • Coaching on continuous improvement methodologies and tools. 

  • Responsible for elimination of top losses, improvement of OLE. 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Focused Improvement

  • Aligns with Cost Deployment Pillar on the priority projects and/or the UMS Pillar, R2S and Center Lining, the role is assigned to. 

  • Eliminates waste and loss according to UMS prioritization process using AM, PM, FI and QC pillar tools and methodologies. 

  • Creates Technical Standards to ensure process stability on the line. 

  • Trains line crews on technical standards and restoration of basic conditions. 

  • Identifies and extends good practices to other lines. 

  • Ensures application and accuracy of MMP Code data. 

  • Prepares and facilitates Standard, Major and Advanced Kaizens. 

  • Aligns with People Development Pillar to form Kaizen Team and deliver trainings for members. 

  • Coordinates with cross functional team to identify actions based on the root cause. 

  • Coordinates with cross functional team to standardize operation and sustain the improvement. 

  • Applies different improvement toolkit either individual (micro) or systematic (macro) approach to address the issues. 

  • Works with other Pillars on improvement related projects. 

Admin

  • Compliance to company COBP, CR&R 

  • Compliance to the GMP and GHK rules of the plant 

KPI

  • Safety & Quality 

  • Waste Reduction 

  • Service – OEE 

  • Kaizen (e.g. changeover & minor stop reduction, BCT reduction/standardization, Bestank elimination) 

  • DFOS / BuildApp Implementation 

  • R2S roll-out (e.g. tags, centerline, CIL) 

Digital

  • Able to operate simple gadgets such as smart phone and iPad. 

  • Learn and adapt to digital tools as required by the Company, especially on the ones applicable to FI. 

Manning 

  • Participates in training and other ad hoc activities as required by the Company. 

  • Any other tasks related to his/her core job that may be required by his/her Line Manager.

  • Consumer and Customer Focus. Building world class factories will eliminate losses and ensure that we do not pass on the cost of inefficiencies to our customers and consumers.

  • Teamwork. Our vision is to move to semi-autonomous teams, and we require FI Engineers with passion for achieving great result through teamwork, an ability to teach operators new tools and methodologies and ensuring that the team is fully aligned on priorities to improve line efficiency. 

  • Accountability and Responsibility. Taking responsibility for eliminating waste and losses in the line and sharing best practices to support improvements in other lines. 

  • Growth Mindset. By building world class factories, we will become more competitive in the marketplace and set the standards to which others will aspire.

  • UMS. Apply the full set of UMS methods and tools to identify root cause, define countermeasures and validate their effectiveness, master of AM, PM, Q and FI tools and processes. Establish standards to support line operators sustain new basic conditions. 

  • Analytical Capability. Collect and analyze complex data to penetrate problems’ phenomena and understand root causes. 

  • Coaching. Champions specific skills within the semi-autonomous and autonomous team and coach them to others to drive excellence. 

  • Continuous Improvement. Uses performance measures to identify and prioritize losses in the factory. Apply rigorous Cost Deployment and the Zero loss concept to eliminate losses. 

ESSENTIAL:

  • Preferably with an Engineering degree in Mechanical, Engineering, Chemical or Industrial (or with Technical Education) and a significant experience in Focused Improvement process 

  • Working knowledge of Manufacturing and Process Safety 

  • Analytical thinking 

  • Problem solving 

  • Influencing skills 

  • Strong observation and auditing skills 

  • Open to Fresh Graduates and with 1-2 years' experience

  • Willing to work in General Trias, Cavite
