General Counsel & Company Secretary– Bangladesh

Job Purpose:
The General Counsel Bangladesh is responsible for leading all legal, company secretarial and governance matters for all the Unilever legal entities in Bangladesh. This role ensures the business operates within applicable laws and governance standards while enabling sustainable growth. As a member of the Country Management team the role acts as a trusted business partner to the Leadership Team, providing strategic legal advice, managing risks, and safeguarding the company’s reputation.

Key Accountabilities:

1. Legal Strategy & Business Partnering

- Responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership relating to all legal, company secretarial and governance issues with respect to the Unilever Bangladesh business.

- Act as the primary legal advisor to the Global/Regional and Country Leadership Team and senior stakeholders

- Responsible for anticipating, identifying and analyzing legal issues, laws , regulations and the development of legal strategies and solutions.

- Translate global and regional legal strategy into locally relevant legal frameworks and practices and implement the same.

- Provide proactive, business-focused legal counsel to support commercial, marketing, supply chain, and corporate HR initiatives

- Support strategic projects including expansions, joint ventures, restructurings, and major business investments

- Manage all litigation, arbitration, and dispute matters involving the company

- Ensure legal compliance and governance standards for the listed company, including assessing and supporting the Business Unit impact for Home Care – Pakistan.

- Work closely with the Legal Hub in Bangalore, India, providing coordinated legal support aligned with the Global Legal Excellence Framework.

Experiences & Qualifications:

- LLB (Hons) from a recognized university; enrolled with Bangladesh Bar Council and Supreme court of Bangladesh, Post Graduation/ Barrister at Law Preferred
- 15 years (+) experience in big MNC environment or big corporate law firm
- Strong knowledge of Bangladesh commercial, labor, and corporate law
