Senior Manager, Retail Experience & Commercial Execution

Background & Purpose of the Job

We are at a unique and critical juncture with our retail partners to lead in the space of a more holistic end-to-end shopper journey.  We have an opportunity to play an influential role with our customers to collaborate and design the future of shopper marketing, connecting digital, media, online and offline strategies and connected and agnostic shopper journey that more accurately reflects how the shopper shops and engages with brands.

The end-to-end journey is fluid and has no official start and end, it’s a flow that is connected through real-time on-demand flow of information.  While most shoppers still purchase in store, how a shopper determines what and where they are influenced to purchase product from begins well ahead of the in-store environment – although not exclusively.

The speed in which the retail environment is changing between tradition brick and mortar to the fluid OMNI ecosystem provides a burning platform to adapt and adopt new ways of working with a more agile and cross functional approach.

With this in mind, Unilever is looking for a Senior Manager, Retail Experience & Commercial Execution.  In this role, you will maximize investment by connecting what matters to the shopper and consumer at the retailers point of purchase through upper and lower funnel strategies and tactics.  This is a leadership role, with 2 direct reports

Develop the job success profile required to thrive in an integrated E2E design team

Design the flow against the optimal timelines within the customer JBP framework

Create a playbook based on best practices, and democratize capabilities across the organization

Lead the development and implementation of in-store visibility strategies that drives incremental, profitable growth across priority channels and customers

Develop an annual display roadmap aligned with commercial and shopper objectives

Measure and report YOY display growth, including number of displays, display compliance, and profitability impact

Partner with procurement and suppliers to negotiate improved pricing, volume efficiencies, and smarter material chocies

Act as the primary interface with our retailer/s marketing departments and agency partners

Lead the development & execution of innovative, retailer-centric shopper programs, working closely with key retailers, agencies and UL marketing/sales teams

Owns planning and execution of strategic customer programs where needed against aligned KPI’s for success

Create concise, compelling and relevant programs linking insight into selling stories to influence action

Budget management ensuring program costs are within assigned budget

Provide program post analysis, understanding of key metrics/measurements that the program delivers as well as its return on investment

What You'll Need to Succeed

You have a unique skill set combining retail customer relationship management, digital acumen with a marketing mindset.   This likely comes from a minimum of 10+ years of progressive experience, including shopper marketing, digital and customer development or brand management.

Leadership experience is required as you’ll manage a team of direct reports and oversee agencies.

You’re a self-learner who stays on top of industry best practices and engagement strategies aimed at advancing the shopper marketing agenda as a key differentiator vs our competition.

You thrive in an agile environment, with an ability to influence teams formally and informally against the consumer shopper agenda.

You excel in relationship management both internally and externally to design and execute compressive shopper marketing activations against aligned KPI’s for measured success across multiple platforms and functional teams.

You will lead in data insight management across customer, market, and consumer data studies in order to design and align winning retailer partnerships and activation to grow the overall Unilever portfolio and enhance category performance for our customers.

You can effectively bridge the gaps between departmental agendas both internally and at the customer across media, digital and instore tactics to create a holistic shopper journey that can be tracked and measured using the customers data sets.

You’ll connect both on-line and off-line strategies and tactics to maximize investment and enhance the overall end to end shopper journey seamlessly and agnostically.
