Job Title: Innovation Scientist

Location: Unilever R&D Bangalore


Job Purpose
The R&D category innovation scientist will be responsible for:
• Supporting early stage innovation projects for the category.
• Ensure that consumer insights drive the initiatives pursued, in syn with organizational strategy
• Identification & application of new ingredients/science in line with category strategy
• Work closely with cross functional teams to ideate, projectize and deliver into the innovation pipeline.


Key Responsibilities
• Provides scientific support & claims substantiation for identified innovation opportunities for the category.
• Performs comprehensive and critical evaluation of own data and data from other scientists to ensure its credibility and finds application in form of innovation opportunities.
• Identify and liaise with external innovators to work on white spaces or leverage their technology for new or existing innovations.
• Participates in cross-category sharing of scientific or consumer opportunities, breaking down any ‘silos’ and ensuring innovation drives across the category
• Looks for innovative and better ways of doing things; actively looks to eliminate non-value-added steps out of processes and procedures
• The ability to effectively manage external relationships, developing and implementing strategies.
• Seeks advise from colleagues when unexpected results occur or when major changes to project plans are considered
• Understand consumer behavior/insights and embed them into new innovation ideas.
• Ability to write technical papers/make project related presentations to senior stakeholders and convey most complex scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders.


Knowledge/Education Required
  • BSc or equivalent Food, Nutrition or related science

  • MS or Ph.D. degree Food, Nutrition or related science

  • 5-6 years (BS); 3-4 years (MS); 2 years (Ph.D.)

  • To give a basic understating of science and application in nutrition product

  • To be at the cutting edge of science to deliver world class innovation program

  • The role involves designing and delivering nutritional products to consumers across age groups so an understanding of both consumers and emerging science is required to perform effectively in this role.
