Purpose of the role: 

Unilever GDT is a critical function underpinning the company’s ability to win in the market. It does this by delivering excellent Digital and Technology services globally so that Unilever can better serve its customers.

The Legal business function provides legal support and expertise across a variety of areas that help drive Unilever’s growth while protecting its interest and reputation.

Digital and Technology services for Unilever Legal covers all aspects of its in-house legal operations, service management and project delivery covering full spectrum of in-house Legal.

You will be a multi-skilled member of a geographically distributed team with responsibility for key Legal applications. You will report to the Lead Manager - Legal & Corporate Product Domain, partnering with senior business stakeholders, vendor partners and technical teams (both inside and outside Unilever), developing and delivering IT services, identifying risks to existing services and working to resolve them. You will own the financial lifecycle of projects from idea to deployment and work with multiple specialist suppliers and Unilever technical teams.  You should be having strong communication and stakeholder management skills and take lead in projects in Legal product portfolio and manage the delivery teams.

Scope of the role 

• The role covers the following areas:

• Business Partnering and engagement: Act as the single point of contact for Unilever Legal business leads to understand their functional demands and finally landing the best-fit technical solution for their use. Should be able to independently carry out business analysis, arrive at the process design and own the project delivery from ideation to deployment with complete accountability.

• Project and Delivery Management: As Product Manager, you will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of projects for Legal in functional areas like Contracting, Legal Operations, Business Integrity, Privacy, Litigation, eTendering, Challenges and Claims.

• Unilever Legal is an early adopter of Generative AI solutions viz CoCounsel and CoPilot with deployments happening since year 2023. Thus, most of our projects today are embedded with GenAI capabilities for advanced and integrated applications of this new age capability. You should be able to:

• Lead delivery of AI, Generative AI, and Agentic AI initiatives from ideation through POC, pilot, and rollout.

• Translate business problems into clear AI use cases with defined success metrics (accuracy, productivity gain, risk reduction, adoption).

• Manage delivery using agile and experimental approaches, with clear go/no-go criteria.

• Oversee AI lifecycle management including model iteration and continuous improvement.

• Team working and collaboration: Work closely with Legal business function, vendor partners and Unilever in-house technical teams to design and deliver technology solutions. Build a close working relationship with Unilever Global Program Management Office (GPMO) and Finance Business Partners for oversight of program finances. Provide best-in-class solutioning, delivery timeline with target cost control measures.

• Technical Innovation: Requirement gathering, stakeholder management, risk assessment, project planning and implementation. This also requires extensive coordination with technical teams (both Unilever internal and third part service providers) and teams such as EA, Info-sec, Cyber and AI assurance.

• Change and release management: Responsible for managing and planning the change demands from a technical perspective. Managing production deployments with vendor partners and support teams. Also ensuring compliance to required controls, pro-actively assessing & managing the risks. Cutover planning & management for major technical projects and co-ordinate post go-live checks.

• Security & Compliance: Coordination of Unilever cyber and security baseline standards implementation, reporting compliance & driving actions.

• Service Ownership and Management: Responsible for onboarding services onto the platform, management of incidents including development and operations by the relevant support teams. Lead service review meetings and communicating to Lead Product Manager. Analyze and monitor suppliers’ performance against agreed service levels, publish results, initiate remedial actions and review maintenance plans, housekeeping, health checks, administration, etc.

• Vendor Management: Continuous engagement with vendor teams to manage BAU operations, Incident Management, Change Management and priority incident resolution. Generate value addition from vendor partners and generate savings in cost and effort. Participate in functional and technical design reviews with strategic IT suppliers and/or other 3rd parties as appropriate. Hold vendors accountable for quality and timeliness of deliveries through governance mechanisms. Ensure adequate knowledge sharing and retention through documentation.

• Commercial Management: Ensure Unilever commercial and finance controls are followed for project delivery. Budget ownership, control and reporting is part of job fundamental.

Essential skills for the role

• Strong business partnering skill with proven track record - experience in independently managing business stakeholders. Very strong communication skill, interpersonal skills and influencing ability are essential for the role.

• Ability to pick-up knowledge and expertise in new business process areas and understand business context in which technology delivery will make an impact - essential for the role.

• Experience delivering complex IT programs in enterprise environment with proven ability to translate business needs into technology solutions.

• Essential technology skill and experience: at least in couple of the following areas viz CLM, Microsoft technology, Azure, ServiceNow, Data Analytics, Integration.

• Working knowledge of AI / ML fundamentals: generative AI and LLM concepts; prompt engineering (conceptual level); Agentic AI patterns (tool use, orchestration, human-in-the-loop)

• Experience in product management - product life-cycle ownership experience (especially SaaS products), product strategy and road-map planning, service management, product testing and quality, release management, feature prioritization, user research, data-driven decision making, and vendor management.

• Prior knowledge of Unilever financial processes, Secure-by-Design will be an added advantage.

• Experience in Legal technology for Contracting, Privacy, Business Integrity, etc. will be an added advantage but not essential.
