Job Purpose

Provide global legal leadership for sanctions, trade controls, fraud, bribery and corruption, and related economic crime risks. Serve as the senior escalation point for high-risk matters, enabling lawful business in challenging jurisdictions while protecting the company’s ethics, licence to operate, and reputation.


Key Responsibilities
1. Advisory, Governance & Risk Leadership
• Lead the global sanctions and trade controls framework across EU, UK, US, and other applicable regimes and design training.
• Horizon scan to ensure risk identification and mitigation, including timely communication and training for emerging risks.
• Provide legal guidance and approvals for high-risk transactions, payments, logistics, and counterparties.
• Engage with banks, insurers, and other partners on sanctions assurance, disclosures, and certifications.


2. Investigations, Third-Party Risk & Policy Ownership
• Act as senior legal SME for fraud, corruption, and assist with other high-risk investigations, including cross-border matters.
• Advise on remediation, control improvements, and governance enhancements arising from findings.
• Provide SME for legal risks for third-party onboarding, due diligence outcomes, and escalations, including matters requiring PBIC/HoC approval. Own and maintain global policies and standards covering sanctions, fraud, bribery and corruption, and related misconduct, ensuring clear and consistent global application.


3. Communication & Culture
• Translate complex legal and regulatory issues into clear, business-focused guidance and communications.
• Participate in cross-functional risk preparedness forums (Joint Operation Centre for Cyber and Geo-political Working Group), bringing awareness of emerging issues for cross-functional awareness.
• Set direction for training, awareness, and targeted risk-based interventions.
• Embed compliance expectations into business operations and ethical decision-making.


Candidate Requirements
• 7+ years’ legal experience in sanctions, export controls, economic crime and regulatory compliance in a multinational or similarly complex environment.
• Strong track record advising on high-risk cross-border matters, including sensitive or geo-politically complex jurisdictions.
• Experience overseeing third-party risk, and drafting and enforcing global compliance policies.
• Practical knowledge of EU, UK, and US sanctions and trade controls regimes, with strong judgment, stakeholder management, and decision-making capability.
