WHO ARE WE?

We are the Global Wellbeing Collective (WBC) team focused on one of Unilever’s largest growth opportunities – the €140bn Wellbeing Collective space defined by Vitamins, Minerals, and Supplements (VMS).

OUR BUSINESS

Unilever’s Wellbeing Collective Group is a Global Business Unit within the Beauty & Wellbeing Business Group.  It holds the company’s functional nutrition brands and the portfolio of brands that includes the acquired brands Nutrafol, Olly, LiquidIV, SmartyPants, Welly, Onnit and Equilibra. Each brand is completely unique and focused on giving consumers superior experiences within their respective spaces and target segments. We are committed to continue grow this strategic business for Unilever through a series of acquisitions and continued international expansion of acquired brands through Unilever’s scale and network in the markets.


JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a dedicated physiologist to study how the human body reacts to various nutrients. As a subject matter expert you will be responsible for investigating the impact of nutritional factors to life processes such as sleep, hydration, women’s health and metabolism. Additionally, you will identify new product or claim opportunities to drive innovation in Wellbeing Collective category. You will provide strong technical leadership and actionable guidance in understanding the physiological mechanism underlying nutritional benefits, building and leveraging a wide array of internal and external capabilities and networks. 

The role reports to the WORK STREAM LEADER BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE ST and will interface with the B&W S&T Teams and the Wellbeing Collective GBU.

The role requires the ability to develop translation science into differentiated and meaningful business opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead 

    • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the global wellbeing business on emerging scientific insights, technology trends and research programs relevant to nutrition, cellular and molecular function, and body systems

    • Establish and lead research programs, using a multidisciplinary approach to investigate how organs, tissues, cells, and biochemical pathways work together to respond to nutritional intake & physical health

    • Translate scientific findings for business applications

    • Develop innovation concepts, claims, and insights to promote health via  food supplementation

    • Develop collaboration networks inside and outside of Unilever

    • Shape and lead research activities, coach technicians and/or students

    • Communicate and publish results internally and externally

    Support (within the broader WBC GBU)

    • Works closely with the Nutrition Science and Innovation Team to help with execution of Horizon 2 and 3 work

    • Partner with the Operating Companies for their long-term research needs

    WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

    • PhD or MSc in life science discipline in physiology, nutritional biochemistry, or related field.

    • Strong knowledge of the cellular and molecular basis for human body functionality

    • Experience in designing and conducting experiments to study physiological processes and mechanisms within living organisms.

    • Experience in informing the design of nutrition physiological intervention studies and tracking the activities of body systems.

    • R&D experience within the FMCG or healthcare industry preferred

    • Industry experience or experience in collaboration with academic & industry partners, combined with project management experience desirable

    • Demonstrate strong result focus and capacity to take initiative and be a self-starter.

    • Excellent communication skills and capacity to convey and adapt scientific information to non-expert audiences
