Summary:
The Associate Safety Manager leads site-level safety initiatives, working closely with Supply Chain and Operations teams to implement strategies that reduce injuries and promote a strong safety culture. This role focuses on occupational health, safety compliance, and behavioral safety programs. This position requires flexible, rotating hours to support implementation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The site SHE Leader has overall responsibility for managing Safety, Health & Environment improvement activities to achieve excellence at the site level.
Core Responsibilities:
• Safety Culture & Behavior
• Drive processes that improve safety behaviors and embed a proactive safety culture.
• Lead behavioral safety observation and reporting programs to identify and resolve unsafe behaviors and conditions.
• Compliance and Risk Assessment
• Conduct safety risk assessments and implement controls for high-risk activities such as hot work, working at height, and confined spaces.
• Monitor site legal compliance and ensure the site meets all local/national regulatory requirements and Unilever standards, provide advice on national SHE legislation requirements & implement relevant procedures and policies
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, and internal safety standards.
• Incident Management
• Lead investigations of safety incidents and near misses.
• Report and analyze trends from incidents and observations to prevent recurrence.
• Training & Competency
• Determine safety training needs and deliver programs for frontline workers and supervisors.
• Ensure safety-critical roles meet competency standards.
• Project Management
• Conduct Project Evaluations from Safety points & Ensuring Management of changes for any new projects
• Support deployment of process safety programs if needed with PSM Manager and assessments for high-risk operations
• Audit Management:
• Participate in safety audits (for example-electrical safety, fire system audit, formal safety audit, OSHA – EPA audit) and ensure alignment with updated corporate standards.
• Committee Leadership
• Assist the site leader in managing the internal safety committee and crisis response team.
• Lead Safety Pillar under UMS Governance.
• Champion safety initiatives across shifts and departments.
• Site Security Leadership
• Lead the site security team, ensuring alignment with safety protocols and emergency response procedures. (access control system, CCTV Management System)
• Collaborate with site leadership to assess and mitigate security risks and support incident response.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in occupational health & safety, Engineering, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in safety management within manufacturing or engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, machine & chemical management safety programs.
Physical Demands
• The role requires regular presence at the site. Work is performed throughout the facility. Potential hazards include proximity of moving machinery, chemical exposure, noise, or heavy lifting. The position may require an individual to stand, stoop, move equipment; bend, reach, or lift for prolonged periods of time. PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection and sanitary footwear.
• In case of emergencies or incidents, the role demands 24/7 availability to respond, including taking calls and planning immediate site visits to collect data and support the team.
• Must be physically able to climb ladders and portable stairways.
• Must be capable of using wrenches and other tools for minor maintenance tasks, use of LOTO tools.
• Requires constant standing and/or walking on concrete floors.
• Must be able to use body members to work, move, lift, slide, push, or carry heavy objects or materials. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Physical demands are consistent with active, hands-on work in a manufacturing environment.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $86,080 to $129,120. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
