Role Overview

The Chief Marketing Officer will lead the Marketing Team and be responsible for the development of all aspects of brand positioning and communications, digital and omni-channel media, social media,  influencer, PR, new product innovation and strategic product plan, marketing investments across the funnel and platforms, annual planning, customer planning starting with insights that delivers a clear and compelling proposition for and in service to the consumer and mission. 

This position will lead the creation of integrated marketing platforms that can be applied broadly in all channels to build brand awareness & trial, demonstrate leadership in progressive values and deliver on the very things that define Seventh Generation, driving breakout growth along the way.   As a result, this position will need to be data and insights driven; measuring objectives, key results, ROI and relentlessly focused on the consumer, fiscal delivery and optimization.

This role reports directly to the CEO/GM of Unilever Home Care NA and will partner and lead closely alongside them as well as be a core member of the leadership team driving our culture and mission. 

Position Description

The successful candidate will:  

  • Deliver a bold consumer centric & innovative marketing strategy that recruits new users, delivers breakout growth, expands the mission and drives market share gain(s), with an integrated approach to build brand and mission love. 
  • Deeply understand consumer insights & behavior, data and the competitive landscape to be able to anticipate consumer needs and design programs and messaging that resonate and connect authentically.
  • Manage the P&L and build a well-thought-out budget. Adapt and optimize in support of profit targets and ROI, with constant optimization.
  • Understand the media landscape and think forward for future media models that can enable a competitive advantage for Seventh Generation and Home Care North America.
  • Lead and oversee all functions and team members within Marketing, ensuring teams collaborate effectively in support of flawless and integrated orchestration.  Mentor and develop team members.
  • Partner and work hand-in-hand with Customer Development & Ecommerce teams to ensure Marketing and Brand vision is executed cohesively across channels and touchpoints.
  • Partner with R&D and CMI to develop product innovation and a strategic product plan based on consumer insights, market trends, competitive landscape, assortment gaps and new category opportunities.
  • Collaborate with and lead agencies and partners to provide comprehensive marketing expertise, thought leadership, and actionable recommendations across the entirety of the consumer journey and marketing funnel.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders and leaders to learn and share best practices.  Have the ability to work successfully in a matrix organization, built on collaboration.
  • As a member of the Leadership Team, contribute to overall Seventh Generation and Home Care NA business planning, culture, mission and decision making.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

  • Bachelor’s required; Masters a plus
  • 10+ years of marketing experience in the consumer products industry in proven innovation, digital thought leadership, brand development, and relevant brand building and/or customer development roles.   
  • Superior leadership, passion for high performance, and desire to be a talent catalyst .  Track record of being an active participant in the culture and mission. 
  • Proven record of consistently delivering results on complex projects through strong organizational skills and the ability to influence and work cross-functionally.
  • Experience leading complex innovation projects and development robust innovation pipeline. 
  • Expert analytical and quantitative skills. Must have the ability to analyze and extrapolate meaning from data, translating it into insights and actionable plans.
  • Ability to build and manage budgets with rationale and validated assumptions to detail the strategy, tactical plans, projected impact, and ROI and optimize along the way.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $210,600 to $421,200. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
