JOB PURPOSE
This role exists to lead the processes for designing, implementing, and optimizing automated systems and process controls within a manufacturing or industrial environment. This role focuses on improving efficiency, reliability, and safety by integrating advanced control technologies and automation solutions. The engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure that automated processes meet production objectives while adhering to regulatory standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Design, develop, and commission control systems for industrial equipment and automated processes, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and robotics.
• Analyze existing processes and identify opportunities for automation to improve productivity, quality, and safety.
• Program, configure, and troubleshoot control systems and automation hardware/software.
• Work with process engineers, production teams, and maintenance staff to define automation requirements and implement solutions.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including specifications, schematics, wiring diagrams, and validation protocols.
• Ensure controls and automation systems comply with applicable industry standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
• Manage projects from concept through completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and vendor coordination.
• Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance personnel on new and existing automation systems.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support root cause analysis for process deviations or equipment failures.
• Stay current with emerging automation technologies and best practices.
The Controls and Automation Process Engineer is an onsite role in the Kilbourn factory partnering with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and Quality. The role may require occasional travel for projects, interaction with vendors, and hands-on troubleshooting of equipment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automation, or related field.
• Experience with industrial automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and instrumentation.
• Strong programming skills for automation platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Rockwell).
• Understanding of process engineering principles and manufacturing operations.
• 3-5 year experience in technical frontline role at FMCG or CG factory
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance for industrial environments.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Advanced degree or professional certifications in controls or automation (e.g., ISA, TÜV).
• Experience with robotics, vision systems, and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) technologies.
• Familiarity with data analytics and process optimization tools.
• Experience in regulated industries such as pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, or automotive manufacturing.
Pay: The pay range for this position is $86,080 to $129,120. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
