Position Summary
This position will perform a variety of tasks ranging from skilled to highly skilled work in the maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, construction and design of precision machinery, and unique/specialized equipment. Employees will operate a variety of testing/analytical equipment and maintain preventive maintenance inspections. Established standard operational and safety procedures will be followed, employees will apply technical knowledge and skills, and occasionally may be required to modify standard practice and procedures.
Principal Accountabilities
- In this role you will perform preventive maintenance, complete maintenance rebuilds per OEM guidelines and repair of instruments and equipment as assigned.
- Must have detailed knowledge for mechanical and electrical maintenance and adjustment of automated equipment.
- Tasks may include fabrication, construction, calibration, electrical programming/troubleshooting, and replacement of a variety of machine parts.
- Employees at this level may need to assist in designing special tools and apparatus.
- Responsible for performing job functions in a manner that promotes a safe work environment, including PPE compliance, fall protection, and all other Plant safety policies and practices.
- Ability to train and help develop fellow maintenance team members on standard maintenance activities performed throughout the factory
Knowledge and Skill Requirements

- Demonstrated strong mechanical ability, welding experience, ability to operate common shop equipment (mill, lathe, band saw, etc.), ability to be innovative, show initiative, and self-direction.
- Demonstrated an ability to collaborate with team members, strong communication, interpersonal , and conflict-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage time, resources, in a professional manner, ability to communicate clearly, reading and writing skills, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrate proficiency with technologies, tools, mathematical skills to job-specific tasks and machines.
- Comply with federal, state, and local safety legal requirements, maintain safe working practices around electrical hazards, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Maintain inventory, PLC Troubleshooting, use of computerized Maintenance Management System.
Minimum Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of technical school training in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, fluid and programmable logic controllers or completion of an approved apprentice program.
- Related experience in above fields and/or advanced training or any equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- A minimum of three (3) years industrial maintenance experience.
- Experience in Food Manufacturing environment preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Requires the ability to read and comprehend a variety of simple informational documentation, directions, instructions, methods and procedures, short correspondence and memos. Requires the ability to write simple reports and correspondence with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar. Requires the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group setting to team members, customers and other employees of the organization, using correct English and a well-modulated voice.
NUMERICAL APTITUDE:
Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide in all units of measure (English and Metric), using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Must be able to determine percentages and weights. Must be able to use an electronic calculator.
FORM/SPATIAL APTITUDE:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, textures, odor, taste, color and shape.
REASONING ABILITY:
Requires the ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Must be able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
MANUAL DEXTERITY:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. There are occasional requirements to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools and controls and reach with hands and arms. Must have average levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be physically able to climb on ladders and portable stairways. Must be physically able to use wrenches and other tools in performing minor maintenance functions. Constant standing and/or walking on concrete floors are required. Must be able to use body members to work, move, lift, slide, push or carry heavy objects or materials. Must be able to lift up to 50-pound bags of powder. Physical demand requirements are at levels of those for active work.
PHYSICAL COMMUNICATION:
Must have the ability to talk (expressing and/or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words) and/or hear (perceiving sounds of nature by ear.) Specific visual abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and color vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Noise levels may exceed 80 decibels and hearing protection must be worn. Work is performed throughout the facility. Potential hazards include proximity of moving machinery, chemical exposure, noise, or heavy lifting. The position may require an individual to stand, stoop, move equipment; bend, reach, or lift for prolonged periods of time. PPE includes safety glasses, hard hat, hearing protection and sanitary clothing and safety footwear.
