Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to oversee the development, implementation, and management of the site’s Safety and Health systems to ensure regulatory compliance and to achieve continual improvement in terms of performance and cost effectiveness. Supports plant operations by educating employees and administering and monitoring SHE systems and procedures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel working in the facility. Promotes organizational compliance with all Safety and Health regulations. Performs duties and responsibilities for the business consistent with company goals and business unit Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates activities and required audits to ensure full compliance with Unilever, OSHA, State of Indiana, and local regulations.
Represent site’s S&H program through participation in and implementation of corporate and product group S&H programs and initiatives, conferences and “Community of Practice” workshops.
Advises and assists the site’s management, production leaders and employees on SHE related issues.
Serves as member of the site’s SHE Pillar, helping direct and implement safety activities such as regulatory training, behavior-based safety program, facility safety audits and assessments, OSHA regulatory program compliance, SHE loss-tree maintenance, incident investigation, etc.
Conducts Employee Orientations by providing new hires and transferred employees with required SHE training.
Communicates current SHE information on a regular basis to the sites’ management team and workforce to keep the site informed.
Assists with management of site’s workers’ compensation program in accordance with the Unilever Workers’ Compensation Protocols and Guidelines.
Develops and maintains accurate SHE statistics and reports. Documents and reports SHE data as required for company and regulatory reporting utilizing computer databases.
Evaluates SHE data to develop action plans to continually improve SHE processes.
Coordinates the investigation of accidents and incidents that occur at the site to determine root causes and recommends corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
Responds to emergency situations as necessary, using the appropriate procedures for the safety of employees and property.
Leads and participates on teams established to address SHE issues.
Develops SHE Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and conducts annual reviews, revising as necessary.
Enforces SHE rules.
Develop, implement and maintain procedures and training for requirements such as: Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding, Confined Space Entry, Emergency Response, Fire Prevention, Waste Water Management, Hazardous Waste Management, Chemical Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Forklift Operation, etc.
Participate in FMEA, HAZOP and Risk Assessments for new projects as well as equipment, process, procedure and material changes.
Works with management on creating special events and programs (Health Fair, SHE Week, Safety Campaigns, etc.) that help stimulate and maintain the SHE engagement of employees.
Maintains follow-up process to ensure completion of key safety and health requirements, recommendations, and initiatives.
Maintains professional associations to keep the organization knowledgeable of current state and federal regulations.
Facilitates/conducts industrial hygiene studies as necessary.
Assists with maintenance of S&H regulatory reporting and record keeping for items.
Represents the facility during regulatory inspections and other third-party audits.
Conduct operations in compliance with our Code of Business Principles and all other applicable policies and regulatory agencies.
Ensure compliance with the 17 elements of the safety framework standards (Unilever Management System) through a process of education, training, review and audit.
Provide accurate and timely reporting of safety and health incidents to the required people through appropriate reporting structures.
All other duties as assigned.
This position reports to the site SHE Manager and is one of the members of the site’s SHE Department. This position requires a high energy, self-directed, oriented to action and passionate SHE professional who enjoys making a difference. People oriented, with strong capabilities to go through safety technical information.
Minimum Education / Experience:
An Occupational Safety and Health (or similar) Bachelors degree is required with a minimum of 5 years related safety and health training experience;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must be computer literate and knowledgeable in Microsoft Office.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $84,400 to $126,600. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
