Main Job Purpose:

Occupational Safety Senior manager works with a network of professionals to establish industry leading position on Occupational Safety for Ice Cream company’s own operations. The role will require the individual to lead on the roll out of technologies, tools, and work processes which help our teams in factory, DCs, Offices and R&D facilities to excel in SHE performance.  Ice Cream company has robust external and internal commitments for protecting people, partners, community and planet and the SHE community facilitates progress against those targets. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Supports the Business Strategy:
    • Works with stakeholders to set annual, 3-year and 5-year roadmap to meet internal company targets on Occupational Safety in our own operations (production sites, DCs/WHs and R&D facilities)
    • Develops, leads, and executes the Global Occupational Safety programs working with Business Unit Managers and Engineers to reduce incidents at site level.
    • Delivers continuous improvement in Occupational Safety working with BU SHE  Managers and Engineers to leverage best practices and partnerships to accelerate results at site level.
    • Works closely with Engineering teams to develop the business case and secures required investments for compliance to support site teams with the execution of the above-mentioned global programs.
    • Partners with the Electrical Technical Authority platform to shift the needle in Electrical Safety includes taking seat in the Electrical TA Steercom.
    • Key contact for site Automation & Digitalization including lighthouse projects to improve and step change safety, interfacing with Innovation and Digital teams introducing and piloting of new technologies and innovations in processes and practices.
  • Global Governance to drive strong SHE culture
    • Partners with other SHE Capability Managers to drive culture change, with a focus on Occupational Safety.
    • Co-leads the Zero Harm to People Expertise Platform to synchronize plans and program on site, raise the capabilities across down to site level.
    • Leads gap closure program of auditing findings to ensure compliance, to ensure integrity of reporting and to proactively prevent incidents occurring
    • Oversees accuracy of governance tools needed for Occupational Safety like PAR, SPR, SHEnet, ePtW, eMOC, Power BI and others.
    • Leads critical root cause investigations globally for complex incidents, sharing best practices and lessons learnt.
    • Works with SHE reporting Team to design and operates a governance process to track company performance against all targets.  Works across the organization to ensure progress meets company expectations
  • Maintains the documented standards, policies, and practices to ensure SHE compliance with regulation and legislation, and Ice Cream company expectations.
    • Strengthens governance & control of materials for our operations by developing, reviewing, simplifying, and refreshing standards and Basis of Preparations where necessary​
    • Deploys all new policies and standards related to Occupational Safety across the end-to-end system. Ensures robust implementation and compliance.
    • Support to UMS-S design & capability development designing and maintaining the learning content and curriculum expectations for Safety management for sites working with Supply Chain Academy (SCA) teams
    • Technical expert in mechanical engineering incl operational technologies relevant to Occupational Safety.
  • Operates within the boundaries of SHE business expectations in cost, capital, and headcount.

Professional Skills:

ESSENTIAL

  • University degree in Engineering.  Technology experience in (mechanical or electrical) engineering, modelling, data analysis and how those technologies across Unilever impact risk is beneficial. 
  • Knowledge in human behaviour and work process associated with unplanned event management. 
  • Excellent knowledge of Unilever SHE standards.  Working knowledge using all SHE IT tools and how those tools integrate into other functional work processes.
  • Influencing skills and international business/cultural sensitivity
  • Good observation and auditing skills.
  • Ability to influence strategic deliverables in a widely matrixed organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple requests and priorities simultaneously.
  • Working experience with work processes in all functions in Unilever to best integrate all SHE standards and tools.

Experience Required:

ESSENTIAL

  • 5-10 years in Plant Operations/ Engineering/ SHE
  • Appropriate functional/technical and project management expertise
  • Strong working / design knowledge of mechanical engineering
  • Good analytical skills and competent using Excel
  • Strong communicator

PREFERRED

  • 2-5 years of experience supply chain operations
  • Existing internal network and relationships with engineering 
  • Passion for or experience in Digital factory and/or integrated digital systems
