The technician is a Preventative Maintenance and Focused Improvement specialist engaged to optimize the running and maintenance of equipment within the factory.
Where breakdowns occur, the multi-skilled technician will act to diagnose and troubleshoot faults and where necessary will recommend design improvements.
She/he is also intimately involved with setting the Maintenance Strategy for the respective production area.
The Technician is professionally competent and qualified to operate safely at a post apprentice level in at least two of the principal engineering disciplines; electrical & Instrumentation and Control.
She/he must be a mentally agile and advanced problem solver actively engaged in maintaining a safe work environment, which protects product quality and reduces waste and other environmental impact.
A positive contributor to the factory’s work environment and culture, the technician will act as a leading coach and mentor to the Technical Operator around the areas of engineering and Unilever Manufacturing System techniques.
A day in the life of an Electrical & Automation Technician…
Demonstrate understanding and application of the “five golden rules” of electrical safety (Isolate, Lock Out Tag Out, verify absence of Voltage, Ground connects in short circuit and working area delimitation)
Support production & process plants to ensure technical soundness in the field of electricity, Instrumentation, automation, and maintenance activities
Fault detection and repair is one of the major responsibilities for equipments, machinery, instrumentations, electrical and control panels.
Provide engineering, production and application support for automation equipment and perform routine checks to monitor equipment operating parameters
Manage/perform service/operation/troubleshooting activities of process control instruments
Ensure processes & equipments are safe for people, products and environment, in line with all corresponding local / Unilever regulations.
Coordinate with production team leads, process engineers, Safety personnel, QA, IL, and projects engineering to resolve Electrical Instrumentation and Automation issues.
Ensure facility building and plant maintenance includes HVAC system, in the form of continuous improvements, and troubleshooting
Ensure and monitor all Instrument and sensor are calibrated
Ensure proper maintenance and update of electrical and automation systems and documentation supporting plant activities
Monitor plant and equipment to ensure optimal operation and reduction of planned and unplanned maintenance
Demonstrate an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations
Manage, perform, check, all topic based on Electrical Safety Unilever Standards
Facilitate the introduction and implementation of new technologies in
co-ordination with Projects EngineeringPerform system diagnostics and troubleshooting for all PLC based system including I/O modules, HMIs, VFDs, Servo systems, Special function modules, OT network and Integrated systems etc
Design and program automated systems in the form of continuous improvements, and troubleshooting for packaging lines and process plants
Log equipment usage, parts replacement, and scheduled maintenance to ensure maximum functionality
Periodically report to leadership regarding automation capabilities and status
Supervise the installation and commissioning of new equipment and /or the upgrade of an existing system
Assist Head of Technical with other maintenance activities.
Experiences & Qualifications
Minimum technical education requirement is Diploma in Electrical and/or Mechatronics and/or Instrumentation and/or Automation.
Bachelor’s graduation in electrical control or mechatronics engineering is an advantage
3 to 5 years technical hands-on experience on electrical and automations preferably in similar industries
Excellent understanding of automation and mechanical operation and maintenance
Ability to read P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and software diagrams
Ability to program PLCs and make changes on HMIs, SCADAs etc
Extensive knowledge on troubleshooting Software, instruments and Automations malfunctions and breakdowns.
Designing, installing, maintaining, and repairing automated equipment used in industrial and manufacturing settings
