Job Title: Deodorant Future Chassis Formulation Manager

JOB PURPOSE

The Deodorants category is a key part of the Unilever Personal Care Business Group, with a family of Power Brands – Rexona, Dove, Axe – which are critical growth drivers of the company.

Formulation design plays a prominent role in innovation plans, and is a key capability to drive competitive advantage and value improvement opportunities through the development of category-leading Core Formulation Designs.

This role comprises leading new future chassis development, and delivering consumer preferred innovative Deodorant formulation chassis globally.

This senior role is responsible for enabling & driving functional excellence across Deodorants formulation community globally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership of a Deo Formulation technology area / sub-format (Antiperspirant Sticks, Deodorant Sticks & Emulsions Sticks), to deliver breakthrough technologies & chassis for our power brands.

  • Define and deliver (to the Brand Innovation Teams) the key technical packages for new Core Formulation Designs – demonstratingmeeting the action standards for consumer benefit, product costs, legal, regulatory & safety considerations, etc) 

  • Lead the design & delivery of a medium-long term future chassis technical roadmap for a specific technology area and maintain alignment with the long-term innovation and strategy programmes

  • Work with Science & Technology, Consumer Benefit Platforms & External suppliers to build a roadmap of new ingredients which help deliver new/better benefits, and create chassis fit for future consumer needs & regulatory requirements. 

  • Lead the 5S & Resilience programmes for the technology area/ sub-format to ensure continuous improvement in input costs and security of supply and negotiation advantages. 

  • Develop best practice in the technology area & implement across the organisation to drive continuous improvement & functional excellence.

  • Identify routes for digital solutions to improve invention or efficiency within the technology area, and develop new tools/models in partnership with digital experts & partners. 

  • Drive technical & formulation functional excellence across the global community. Ensuring team operating according to best practices in formulation chemistry & chassis development, andidentifyroutes to unlock speed & capacity.

  • Drive a digital transformation agenda in Deo formulation to enable speed, efficiency & optimised quality, working with Deo’s Digital & Data manager, and wider R&D Digital community for expert support & tool/model development.

  • Be key point of contact for S&T Product Engineering group, andensure PE science programme is fully aligned behind long term priorities & transformation agenda.

  • Provide strategic view on global deodorants R&D formulation laboratory asset base & define CapEx requirements to maintain existing capability and build new capability for novel ingredients, technology & digital transformation.

  • Lead & develop a small team of talented formulators.

ALL ABOUT YOU

  • Desirable Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry (science and technology expertise)

  • Fully operational in Formulation Development in R&D and awareness / experience in related functions (eg Processing, Science & Technology, Packaging Development etc.)

  • Proven relevant working experience with a proven track record on product & formulation chassis design (in Personal care, Deodorants preferable)

  • Ability to form excellent partnerships with internal & external partners, and work in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural teams. 

  • A growth mindset, with the ability to spot & implement opportunities to make improvements. 

  • Strong communicator, with the ability to translate technically complex information into clear simple messages for teams & stakeholders
