Job Purpose:

The Market Development Manager (MDM) would be responsible for Distributor Management within defined markets aimed at delivering profitable and sustainable growth.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountable for delivering the sales and profit targets set by the company for defined territories of the Export Business.
  • Responsible for ensuring the core functions of distributor management is executed timely and accurately. Sales forecasting, Inventory management, promotional/brand planning, order discipline etc.
  • Responsible for developing relations with the distributors to allow for execution of the core responsibilities in-market.
  • Required to collaborate with the demand plan department to always ensure an accurate view of demand is provided internally to ensure optimal service to markets.
  • Responsible for ensuring optimal inventory levels are maintained in keeping with Unilever’s inventory policy.
  • The MDM is accountable for ensuring ALL distributors purchase orders are submitted on time and in full according with Unilever’s policy.
  • Responsible for coordinating and sharing updated pricing surveys for each market and category, as is required to ensure proper analysis of competitive position.
  • Responsible for reviewing and aligning trade plans quarterly with the distributor to deliver the growth ambition.
  • Responsible for conducting a market visit per quarter to respective markets to ensure execution and trade compliance to Unilever’s standards.
  • Required to have a comprehensive understanding of their respective markets and ideas on how to drive growth profitably

Experience Required

  • B.Sc. Degree in Marketing or Business Management
  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills with the ability to resolve issues independently or, if required, escalate appropriately

Professional Skills:

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Comfortable with financial terms and measures (P&L)
  • Strong overall communication skills are essential
