The Utilities Engineering Manager will be part of the team responsible to manage the Technical Authority framework for Fire, Dust, Boilers, hot water & Air disciplines and design, adopt, and deploy the technical leadership expertise to the BU organizations.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE?
Industrial Fire, Dust, Boilers, hot water & Air Expertise: This job asks for an expert in these areas in Ice Cream factories, they are essential for manufacturing the frozen products. As most of the IC factories operate big industrial installations for Ammonia refrigeration systems and large production lines and processes, the Utilities Engineering Manager must have a deep expertise in installations and how can be optimized to reduce cost in a significant way and to make them safer, using creative innovative solutions for problem resolution, leveraging AI technologies. TA1 Fire, Dust, Boilers, hot water & Air: The industrial installations and systems are seen as high-hazard installations and fall under specific regulations. The Utilities al Engineering Manager needs to be the Technical Authority 1 for these disciplines. A TA1 is a certified Professional Engineer or equivalent with the authority to manage the Technical Authority Framework. The main role of the TA1s is to set and regularly update technical requirements / standards and endorse key critical decisions and deliverables.
TA1 is responsible for:
Defining the competence levels for TA2 and 3s, assessing candidates, certifying them, and maintaining the list of TA2s and preparing the succession / replacement plan.
Custodianship of the external standards and codes of practice recognized by generally accepted engineering practices, applicable laws, codes and regulations. Providing technical support for the assurance of compliance with ice cream company obligations. Approving the use of other external third party and industry codes, standard and best practices.
Developing and maintaining design and maintenance standards and ensuring their consistent application within the ice cream company.
Monitoring and providing independent technical endorsement for operational risk assessments (i.e. preventive maintenance, or corrective maintenance).
Providing the final technical endorsement for deviations from Ice Cream technical/ engineering standards, and industry codes and standards related to their scope using Ice Cream Management of Change Process.
Providing independent technical assurance by endorsing key technical/ engineering deliverables or participating in project assurance reviews in line with Ice Cream Projects Delivery Requirements.
Participating and conducting investigations in any untoward incidents and give technical support.
Maintaining the network of ammonia TAs and ensuring the right amount of information transfer between TAs and factories. The basic tool to be used are regular meetings within the TA community.
Global Technical Expert for Boilers, hot water & Air Energy Efficiency. Ice Cream has a high focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. Part of the role is to give technical support in all questions concerning improvement in utilities to reduce the energy consumption and to move from fossil energy sources to regenerative energy supply.
Global Technical Expert for Fire, Dust, Boilers, hot water & Air are responsible to define the technical authority STD for both disciplines and be responsible for the accomplishment of this std within the TA02 and O3 Network.
Technical gatekeeper for all Capex Projects involving Fire, Dust, Boilers, hot water & Air Installations: Business continuity is essential because ice cream is a product with highly varying sales volumes which often require short term availability of all production equipment. Regular replacement of critical equipment before reaching their end of life is as important as continuous upgrade to modern standards and tools or when capacity expansions are required. Lead the design and development of installations and Systems, control systems, and instrumentation. Bring in outside in knowledge from the market. Then, capital expenditure requests from the factories need to be technically evaluated, approved if okay or declined when not the right solution, technically not mature or not in line with long term plans.
Design and Development: supporting sites in all electrical Installations related questions: Responsible people and contacts in the factory’s changes, new people come into roles and new technologies are being tested. It’s part of the job of the higher TAs (TA1, TA2) to support new colleagues, integrate them into the network of technical experts, share experience and guide on the ways of working as well as on the proven technical solutions. The Utilities Manager has the function of excellence expert in this Engineering Area, to ensure integrated solutions with other disciplines.
Guiding on the use of new technologies and components taking legal developments into consideration. The continuous improvement in this area must be led by the Utilities Engineering Manager by closely following the European and American Regulations, and with the local teams related to specific countries requirements.
Quality Assurance: Ensure all engineering processes comply with safety and quality standards, conducting regular audits and reviews.
Budget Management: Develop and manage project budgets, forecasting resource needs and controlling costs.
Others: Support roll-out of initiatives on cost optimization and energy consumption reduction. Identify net productivity projects referred to the technology that can be deployed to the sourcing network. Create digital environment in managing the operations and maintenance to optimise cost and improve overall safety.
EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULD HAVE/THE QUALITIES WE LOOK FOR
Professional skills: Master’s degree in mechanical or electrical or civil engineering. University degree.
Strong knowledge of design principles and standards.
Collaborative team environment with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
The candidate has several years of experience as utilities manager in a factory operating an industrial Installations.
Prior experience in the Ice Cream category preferred.
Good understanding of global suppliers’ capabilities and networks.
Good knowledge in digital tools and new technologies for electrical installations
Good managing skills, great communication skills and sufficient English skills in writing and talking.
Travel: as per job requirement.
