JOB PURPOSE
Key focus of the role will be to advise and manage direct tax aspects for the operating and corporate Unilever legal entities in the Netherlands and Belgium, including developments in tax law, tax case law and tax policies.
The person will support stakeholders in Finance, M&A, treasury and legal and will identify, communicate and own the pro-active management of tax risks and opportunities.
To own the NL /BE group Effective Tax Rate impacts through in-depth understanding of drivers and understanding of possibilities to steer, protect and create tax value in connection with ongoing projects and developments in tax law, case law and tax policies. The tax manager Benelux will advise and review compliance and reporting positions.
The Tax manager Benelux ensures that the relation with tax authorities is maintained by display of a high level of transparency, accuracy and working in present time. Ownership and delivery of the individual monitoring plan between Unilever and the Dutch tax authorities.
Autonomously managing all tax matters in relation to Belgium via third party outsourcing arrangement.
The contributes in various international / global projects from an in-depth understanding of Dutch tax law and transfer pricing. The aim is to create value including making assessments and decisions in where and how to manage risk and opportunities.
Role reports to the Tax Director Benelux and Controversy.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
Business partner the NL OpCo, Europe central supply chain, corporate controlling, Transfer Pricing, treasury and Transformation (M&A) teams. Build and maintain an effective relation with all of these teams.
Analyse, own and manage tax technical aspects in connection to fiscal unity, innovation box, participations, debt financing, hedging, pensions, relief for double taxation, double tax treaty application and advise on tax audits including possibilities to find resolutions through administrative objection, litigation, mutual agreement procedures and or arbitration.
Add value by expertise contribution into quarterly tax reporting process and into tax compliance processes. Understand, Protect and create value through management of the Effective Tax Rate, through assessing, anticipating and communicating tax impacts of projects and tax technical aspects through the lens of tax reporting.
Oversee and own tax matters in relation to Unilever marketing and sales activities in Belgium.
Be a driving force behind further optimizing use of Technology and Efficiency in area of tax risk management.
EXPERIENCE YOU SHOULD HAVE/THE QUALITIES WE LOOK FOR
Experiences & Qualifications
Experience of 8+ years in a corporate tax environment (Big4 or corporate in-house)
In-depth understanding of tax reporting for Group IFRS and Dutch GAAP.
Experience working with internal and external stakeholders in an international environment.
Have an owner mindset and pro-actively identify and implement required measures to effectively manage tax risk and opportunities.
Efficiency: Use technology and risk assessment to drive ruthless efficiency improvement and eliminate non-essential steps. Dare to question status quo.
Stakeholder management - being able to translate tax risk and opportunity into easy understandable language for non-tax stakeholders
Managing outsourced services while maintaining responsibility (Belgium)
Outcome driven, working non-formalistic daring to take calculated risks.
Skills
Dutch and International tax law, Transfer Pricing, Reporting (IFRS / Dutch GAAP), Strategic Tax Planning, Business Acumen, Stakeholder Management, Change Management, Financial Acumen, Strategic Partnerships, Data Driven Decision Making.
