JOB PURPOSE:
Purpose of Role
The Payroll Supervisor oversees the accurate and timely execution of payroll processes across multiple entities, ensuring compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations, and SOX requirements. This role manages day-to-day payroll operations, coordinates with external vendors, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll Operations:
- Supervise end-to-end payroll processing for assigned countries/entities.
- Review and approve payroll monthly run/final reports.
- Ensure timely submission of payroll data, approvals, and payments.
- Coordinate with payroll vendors to resolve operational issues and ensure service delivery.
Team & Vendor Coordination:
- Lead and support payroll coordinators or SMEs in daily operations.
- Act as escalation point for payroll-related queries from internal stakeholders and vendors.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure adherence to SLAs and KPIs.
Compliance & SOX Controls:
- Ensure payroll processes comply with local labor laws, tax regulations, and internal policies.
- Maintain and enforce SOX-compliant payroll controls, including:
Segregation of duties.
- Documentation of payroll approvals and changes.
- Evidence of control execution and audit readiness.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
Reporting & Reconciliation:
- Prepare and review payroll reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor and resolve discrepancies in payroll data and accounting entries.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for automation and process optimization.
- Participate in system upgrades, transitions, and change management initiatives.
- Develop and update payroll SOPs and training materials.
Stakeholder Management:
- Collaborate with other workstream leads (especially Finance, Legal & Supply Chain) to ensure key prerequisites (such as the setup of legal entities and bank accounts) are on track and key interdependencies are accounted for in the payroll plan.
- Participate in Internal and external Audits
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in payroll operations, with supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong understanding of payroll systems, vendor management, and statutory compliance.
- Experience with SOX controls and audit processes.
- Proficiency in Excel and payroll software/tools (e.g., SAP, ADP, Neeyamo).
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- English is mandatory

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
As publicly announced, Unilever will separate its Ice Cream business which is expected by the end of 2025. This role will transfer to the new Ice Cream company.
