Job Description – Senior Executive/Assistant Manager (Safety) – Construction Project ________________________________________ 1. Job Purpose To ensure the implementation of Unilever’s Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) standards, Life Critical Standards, contractor safety expectations, and statutory norms at the Greenfield construction project. The role enables a proactive SHE culture that prioritizes people, compliance, and continuous improvement in line with Unilever policies. ________________________________________ 2. Key Roles & Responsibilities A. Implement Unilever OHS & Life Critical Standards • Embed Unilever’s global OHS standards and Code Policy requirements across all construction activities. • Ensure no breach of Life Critical Standards and promote “ALL IN! for Safety” culture. • Make sure all workers are adequately trained, competent, medically fit, and alert before undertaking work. ________________________________________ B. Contractor & Workforce Safety Management • Ensure all employees, contractors, and visitors understand and follow Unilever safety procedures and instructions. • Conduct SHE inductions, toolbox talks, and continuous capability building, aligned with Unilever expectations of transparency and trust in safety culture. • Support team leaders to ensure full compliance at all work fronts. ________________________________________ C. Construction Safety Oversight • Daily inspection of critical construction activities: excavation, scaffolding, working at height, hot work, lifting operations, confined space entry, structural erection, and commissioning activities. • Ensure strict compliance to Permit to Work (PTW) procedures and Unilever Manufacturing System–linked safety practices. • Validate risk assessments (HIRA, JSA) and ensure controls are followed. ________________________________________ D. Legal & Unilever Compliance • Ensure the site complies with local OHS legislation and Unilever’s mandatory safety requirements, aligned with ISO 45001 based standards. • Maintain all required certifications (lifting tools, electrical safety checks, scaffolding inspections, etc.). • Participate in Unilever SHE Committee expectations cascaded through site leadership. ________________________________________ E. Incident, Emergency & Risk Management • Lead investigations of incidents, near misses, injuries, unsafe conditions, and ensure timely reporting-“never assume someone else will”. • Ensure CAPA closure and share learnings as per mandatory Unilever reporting standards. • Maintain, communicate, and test site emergency plans in compliance with Unilever policy. ________________________________________ F. Safety Culture & Leadership Engagement • Drive a positive safety culture using Safety Moments, Together for Safety initiatives, and visible leadership programs. • Encourage employees to intervene and speak up about hazards without fear. • Promote proactive behaviors for hazard spotting and reporting. ________________________________________ G. Environment, Health & Sustainability in Construction • Implement environmental controls in alignment with Unilever’s Responsible Business & Environmental guidelines (dust control, waste disposal, noise mitigation, spill prevention). • Support integration of SHE requirements into project engineering and contractor work methods. ________________________________________ H. Documentation & Reporting • Manage all SHE documentation: induction logs, PTW records, incident registers, training matrices, audit reports, emergency plans, KPIs. • Report mandatory KPIs through Unilever’s safety reporting system. • Participate in internal and corporate HSE audits. ________________________________________ 3. Skills & Qualifications Education • BE / Diploma in Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical) • Mandatory: Diploma in Industrial Safety • Preferred: NEBOSH IGC / IOSH / equivalent Technical Skills • Strong knowledge of construction safety, PTW, HIRA, LOTO • Understanding of Unilever SHE expectations and ISO 45001 approach • Contractor safety management experience Behavioral Competencies • Influencing and communication skills • Ability to uphold Unilever values of respect, dignity, and fairness (Code of Business Principles) • Proactive, collaborative, and strong leadership presence on field Language proficiency • English-Fluency • Hindi -Fluency • Telugu - Preferable
