Job Title: Ice Cream - Cell Leader

Purpose

The purpose of the role is to support deployment of UMS R2S (Run to Standard) program in the site. The person is leading the agenda of the cell (cell is an organization element that normally consists of several production lines and has resources dedicated to improvement: cell leader, process engineer, focused technician), driving efficiency and capacity improvement, reduction of line(s) OEE losses and RPM waste, deployment of Safety, Quality and Sustainability standards.

Cell leader is a professional with a good understanding of production process, preferably should have proficient technical skills and display excellent leadership capabilities.

Cell leader provides the governance function for the cell team consisting of process engineer, focused technician and operators across all the shifts, ensuring delivery of all relevant cell performance targets and KPIs, distribution and allocation of tasks inside the team, execution of R2S governance (meetings, board, actions follow up, etc.). This person is ultimately responsible for the right level of engagement and commitment of cell employees to deliver R2S agenda and activities, he/she also contributes to their development within his/her area of expertise (can act as a trainer). Can lead improvement projects inside the cell.

During the first phase(s) of R2S program deployment in the site (UMS Foundation Tier) the role of cell leader normally co-exist with other supervision positions on the shop floor like MAKE FLM (First Line Manager), Supervisor, Shift/Team coordinator, who are carrying the responsibility over delivery of the production plan, labor planning activities, absenteeism management, etc. At the same time the scope and area of responsibility of the cell leader should be fully dedicated to cell improvement activities and delivery of cell performance targets.

Cell leader liaises closely with the core factory functions, including Manufacturing, Engineering, Planning, Logistic, HR, Quality and Safety.

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Contribute together with SU leadership team to the development and sign off of site R2S plan. Define all relevant cell performance KPIs (mid/long term) in order to meet SU efficiency targets.

  • Set up the right ways of working following R2S logic and framework inside the cell with clear areas of responsibility between all cell members including process engineer, focused technician and operators.

  • Ensure execution of cell activities across all UMS pillars following SU R2S plan. Manage proper allocation of the resources (cell members and cell operators) to deliver cell agenda.

  • Drive performance improvement inside the cell: line(s) efficiency (OEE), capacity, reduction of RPM waste, labor productivity, execution of safety, quality, sustainability standards, etc.

  • Manage the process of data collection in the cell to capture different types of losses based on specific site requirements.

  • Ensure robust execution of R2S governance: different types of meetings, follow up on the activities, corrective actions, escalation of issues, etc.

  • Keep right level of motivation of cell members providing support, coaching, driving involvement of people in different activities.

  • Support PD pillar with cell upskilling and reskilling agenda in order to define priorities and deliver relevant learning interventions. Can act as a trainer within his/her areas of expertise.

  • Contribute to the process of line standards creation. Write SOPs and other relevant documents.

  • Ensure the proper usage of digital shop floor solutions by all cell members.

  • Drive the process of Kaizens and Best practices creation, replication and sharing inside the factory and outside if relevant.

  • Monitor cell UMS R2S progress against the plan and lead issues resolution if any. Report on the progress to all relevant stakeholders.

Candidate Criteria:

  • Technical degree in related field.

    • Packaging: mechanical, electrical, robotics

    • Processing – product technology knowledge

  • People currently employed as Team leader or Shift coordinators can be appointed for this position

  • Technical. Effective mechanical skills supported by robust knowledge of manufacturing processes relevant to their operation

  • UMS. Knowledge of FI, AM, PM Foundation methods and tools, main activities that should be implemented in the cell

  • Safety. Knowledge of appropriate safety procedures for people, processes, materials, products and equipment to ensure a safe working environment for the whole team. Understanding of safety pillar activities that should be implemented as part of cell agenda.

  • Quality. Knowledge of site quality manufacturing standards. Understanding of the main activities that should be implemented in the cell

  • Leadership. Ability to use different leadership styles, motivation practices and tools in order to establish a positive team climate supported by authentic leadership and clear communication

  • Facilitation and Coaching. An ability to facilitate technical improvements using UMS improvement tools. Able to coach cell members to build team performance.

  • Decision Making. Makes governance decisions for the cell and adjudicates on unresolved team issues. Sets the strategy and plan for Continuous Improvement guided by loss trends and direction provided by the Manufacturing Manager.

  • Problem Solving. Has the ability to identify, priorities and address problems using appropriate tools and techniques that eliminate recurrence.
