BUSINESS CONTEXT AND MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

As an Area Engineer in our sachet & bottle filling operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our production lines operate reliably, efficiently, and safely every single day. Your impact goes beyond machinery—you’ll help ensure our products reach millions of consumers with quality and consistency they trust.
This role focuses on owning the maintenance strategy for a specific area of our factory. You will lead maintenance planning, cost control, reliability initiatives, safety and quality compliance—all while driving improvements in equipment uptime, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Asset Care & Maintenance Execution
- Lead and manage planned maintenance activities (preventive, predictive, and autonomous) across sachet & bottle filling machines, conveyors, and supporting infrastructure.
- Ensure high standards of plant availability and reliability through robust planning, execution, and follow-up of maintenance activities.
- Develop and maintain machine care plans aligned to Unilever’s UMS (Unilever Manufacturing System) standards.
2. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Identify chronic losses in your area and lead root cause elimination initiatives using tools such as RCA, 5 W+1H, and FMEA.
- Drive continuous improvement projects that enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), reduce energy consumption, and minimize product and packaging waste.
- Leverage Lean and TPM principles to deliver year-on-year performance gains.
- Work with the maintenance planner to track breakdowns and develop countermeasures for repeat issues.
3. Engineering for Safety & Quality
- Ensure all activities in your area meet Unilever’s safety, health, and environment (SHE) standards.
- Own risk assessments, permit-to-work processes, and contractor safety compliance. Develop procedures that do not exist
- Perform audit on LOTO procedures and update with Safety team
- Collaborate with the Quality team to ensure machine and process design meet hygiene and GMP expectations.
4. Budget & Spare Parts Management
- Own and control the maintenance budget for your area, delivering cost-effective maintenance without compromising quality or safety.
- Optimize spare parts consumption through data-led analysis and predictive planning.
- Work with the storeroom and maintenance planner to ensure the correct parts and quantity of parts are being stocked for each machine and critical components.
- Partner with procurement and stores teams to ensure critical spares availability and stock accuracy.
5. People & Contractor Leadership
- Coach and develop a team of maintenance technicians and engineers, enabling a culture of ownership, accountability, and technical excellence.
- Lead by example in safety, quality, reliability, and continuous learning.
- Supervise third-party contractors during equipment servicing and project work, ensuring high standards of execution and adherence to site protocols.
6. Digitalization & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records through the Digital Maintenance System (DMS) or Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Track KPIs including MTBF, MTTR, planned vs unplanned maintenance ratio, and maintenance cost per equipment.
- Translate insights from performance data into clear action plans.

- Delivery of repairs & maintenance (R&M) cost targets

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in FMCG, pharmaceutical, or packaging industry environments
- Experience with vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) and sachet & bottle filling equipment and associated utilities
- Experience with CMMS systems
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving capability
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to coordinate and communicate with teams working different shifts across 24/7 schedule
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex maintenance tasks in a complex production environment
- Working knowledge of maintenance systems, engineering compliance, and SHE requirements.
Preferred:
- Lean Six Sigma, WCM, or TPM exposure
- Experience with PM Pillar execution, SAP PM or other CMMS tools
- Knowledge of sustainable engineering practices and energy efficiency initiatives
- Certification in Reliability Engineering or Maintenance Management (e.g., CMRP)
