The role Assistant Manager, Sustainable Sourcing presents an opportunity to be part of the global Sustainable Sourcing (SuSo) team within Procurement and Supply Chain that will deliver Unilever’s Climate and Nature commitments especially related to our sustainable sourcing and deforestation-free strategy and commitments as well as our protect and regenerate nature.
You will focus on supplier engagement, management of implementation partners, internal and external stakeholder management in ensuring compliance to Unilever’s sustainability policies and standards; and project management of Unilever’s Nature programs in our strategic oil growing production landscapesglobally. You will report to the Senior Manager, Sustainable Sourcing, based in Singapore responsible for the global sustainable sourcing of palm oil, as part of a purpose-led international team.
Main Responsibilities
Supplier engagementand noncompliance management on Unilever’s sustainability policies relatedof forest-risk commodities in Unilever’s supply chain (40%)
Manage supplier engagement and risk of forest-risk commodities (focusing on palm oil).This includes:
Process: Maintaining and updating supplier engagement and stakeholder engagement strategies on grievance and non-compliance process of the Unilever People and Nature Policy and other relevant corporate sustainability policies. Engaging with suppliers, grievance raisers,implementation partners, and relevant internal Unilever teams in the review, investigation, and verification of grievances and internally-detectednon-compliances;
Document and report: Managing the grievance and non-compliance database and providing quarterly updates to the Unilever People and Nature grievance tracker on the Unilever website;
Integrate: Working with the Sustainable Sourcing and procurement teams to ensure grievances and non-compliances are addressed, monitored, communicated, and inform sourcing decisions (supplier due diligence, support in supplier risk strategy, management and, implementation).
Continue to build and manageUnilever’s Nature Positive Strategy (40%)
Directly support Unilever’s commitment to protect and restore 1 million hectares of natural ecosystems by (based on forest risk crops footprint), with a focus on oil palm production landscapes. This includes:
Assistingwith the strategy, design,partnership agreements and management of the implementation of Unilever’s programson the protection and regeneration of nature ecosystems located within the supply shed of Unilever’s sourcing areas;
Support in the reporting, communication, and assurance of our Nature Positive and sustainable landscapeprograms.
Ensure Unilever receives value for investment throughregular progress meetings, management of project reports, relevant impact data and shapefiles, and communication materials from implementation partners; and ensure timely processing of invoices and other requests with internal teams at Unilever.
Support the delivery of a sustainable and deforestation-free palm with positive impactful programs & resilience plan (20%)
Support to the sustainable sourcingand commercial procurement team for palm oil on supplier due diligence and management related to deforestation-free supply chain requirements, and maintenance of supporting internal databases (sustainability supplier profiles and risk rating, traceability database, risk mills list, traceability, etc.).
Work with the team to maintain and enhance leadership positions across critical non-governmental organizations (NGOs), sustainability scorecards, and other external indexes and reporting requirements for Forest Risk commodities.
Ad-hoc support as needed.
Candidate Criteria
Experience & Qualification
3-5 years prior experience
Essential –experience/involvement in environmentaland/orsocial sustainability projects or issues management
Preferred – knowledge of forest-risk commoditiesand supply chains, including palm oil, cocoa, soy, paperand pulp, and the suppliers landscape
Skill
Excellentcommunication skills in English, verbal and written
Stakeholder management (internal and external)
Quick and accurate synthesis of information from multiple sourcesin the form ofexecutivesummary/white paper
Project management: design, budgeting, contracting, monitoring, and reporting
Strong interest in sustainability and sustainability standards
Ability to work in virtual teams
Microsoft office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneDrive, Sharepoint, PowerBI)
